Whats Important when it comes to Undergrad?

When choosing an undergrad, is the education more important than the overall experience is?

I think that I'd be happier and enjoy the atmosphere and campus of Brown more, but Georgetown/George Washington would offer a better education in the area that i'm interested in (Int Affairs).

Do you think it makes more sense to go somewhere where I'd enjoy the atmosphere more for Undergrad and then go where the academics are the top for grad school?

i vote for better experience (atmosphere and campus life) undergrad, then top academics for grad ('coz really that's the only reason u go to grad school). plus it's not like brown's a crappy school, and its ivy status might actually help you for grad school.

agreed - what's important in undergrad is that you like the school you go to

I agree. Choosing a school purely on academics can lead to heartbreak later

Even though I'm attending GW next year, you should absolutely not pay the price to go there or Gtown if you don't think you will enjoy it. The college experience far surpasses the academic experience. Also, Brown's IA program is IMO of equal status to Gtown and GW. This would be a different discussion if Brown weren't an ivy!

Yeah Brown is amazing and you will get plenty of opportunities in that area. Go for the experience.

ivy league status + you enjoy campus = go

You really want to shoot for a great mix of both. All things equal though, I would choose experience over academics IF it's only a small drop in academics, and I don't think it's much of a drop at all to go to Brown.

I wish i could've chosen W&M over UVA...UVA is big, crowded, my classes are like 3939 students and it sucks, W&M is totally focused on undergrads, my friend's classes are 30 tops and I truly believe their undergrad student population is intellectually superior than ours.

Is that why your location is in Williamsburg(W and M hometown)? Funny that most of your 12 posts are about how UVA is easier to get into that UVA

typo-meant to say UVA is easier to get into than W&M

it just depends on if you like the big uni style or small lac style- you get what you pay for, and you payed for the big uni, so i'm not sure why you would expect any different

haha i'm from williamsburg hence choosing to get as far as possible from here and the furthest instate was UVA, i was not gonna go to JMU or Tech. Looking back now, I feel that I should've just lived at home and gone to W&M...however, I do like Charlottesville and there are tons of things to do unlike the 'burg.

Brown is amazing at everything, you won't be missing much academically lol

Ok, i'm only a freshman at William & Mary but I still can't help but always think about my chances at law schools, since my GPA from now will affect my GPA when I eventually apply. I have like a 3.5 and my majors are IR and Hispanic Studies, what worries me is the LSAT, because I am a horrible test taker (bad SAT scores). I wanna know if I indeed keep up my 3.5 or 3.6, what my chances are for any top national law schools.

Thanks"
