Whats is fair?

So recently my APUSH teacher gave us a 25 point pop quiz, the kids that were absent for some reason or the other (about 5) were given a make up assignment (2 page paper) in lieu of the pop quiz. The assignment, while very tedious is pretty much a guaranteed 25/25 if completed, while the quiz most people failed. I am trying to argue that it is only fair for the kids who had to take the quiz to have the opportunity to do the make up assignment. Is what I am arguing fair? Not that it matters but my year grade depends on this.

Everyone should take the same test. Different questions to prevent cheating is OK, and making the make-up slightly harder to compensate for studying is OK (within reason), but a totally different, much easier assignment is not. That’s just a good excuse for people to be “sick” on the day of the quiz for the purpose of taking the makeup.

So no, it is not fair.
EDIT: Scratch that. What I meant is the situation is not fair. It is fair to allow you to take the make-up because it’s so much different and some people have an unfair advantage over others the way your teacher did it.

Thankgs dogod… I will show this thread to my teacher to see if it changes her mind at all. Haha.

Many people would probably much rather take the quiz than have to write a paper, even if they wouldn’t do as well on quiz (I know I would). So I wouldn’t say it’s unfair because one is easier than the other - that depends on the person. What is maybe unfair is that different people’s grades are being based off entirely different assignments.
