What's it like at Davidson College?

can I have some opinions?

Do a search- there was a very recent, good thread about Davidson.

There's also a livejournal community for Davidson.

there was an extended thread re: Davidson on the parents forum

see parents forum, I brought the aforementioned thread back to the top for you.

Right now, Davidson is #1 on Princeton's Review's top 20 list for best overall quality of life.

Just got back from my recruiting overnight at Davidson and it was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, since I went on a Monday night there wasn't any partying, so I don't know much about the social scene. I tried to find something I hated about the school, but I couldn't. The campus is beautiful, the classes I went to were great and the professors are very knowledgable and helpful, and every single person I met there was awesome.

How was the coach? Do you feel secure? I'm glad you loved the school and I hope you are ready to run!

The coaching staff is great; I was with Coach Moss because I'm a sprinter, but I did meet the head coach (Coach Andrew) and he's a really laid-back guy who knows his stuff.
Do I feel secure as in safe at the school or secure knowing that I'll get in? The campus is safe, because of the Honor Code students know they can leave their doors unlocked or, as my tour guide said "Sometimes I'll go to lunch and leave my i-Pod or cellphone in the library and when I come back two hours later, it's still there untouched".

I meant secure that you will get in. I know you were worried when we had the horror-story thread about athletes not getting into schools despite coach support. Davidson sounds great.

Davidson...I find the village it is in boring rather than charming but there is access to a great lake for the students to sail, and Charlotte is fifteen minutes away. The students are HIGHLY motivated people, serious, sincere, ambitious, responsible and heading for grad schools with high success rates. The faculty is wonderful and the eating clubs are great...when you are older you can choose your club and they are not really exclusionary. Lots of homework but the students are the hard-working type. Unusual amount of merit aide for scholar athletes, and an unusual amount of athletes in the small student body.
Davidson grads are highly principled professionals who praise their teachers later in life and love their school. It really is an honor to get in and the faculty gives 100%.

I still have no idea, all the coaches told me was that it is still "up to admissions", but all the athletes on the team told me that the coaches do have a little bit of pull for their top recruits. The middle SAT range for the class of 2008 was 1300-1430, and I'm only at 1310, so that might be the problem, and that's what I'm most nervous about. I guess I'll find out in a month or so if I'm going to be a Wildcat.

That bottom 25%(those below 1300) is full of athletes, I think you will be here next year.
