I know that WU is superb in acdemics. I am just wondering...are there many activities in WU(compare to the other top 20s) and are students having an INTERESTING life here? I hope that WU is not too academic focused.

BTW,I have been searching for a WU school logo, but failed to find one...

Suzimiya - There are tons of things to get involved in at Wash U, it is very dynamic on campus. Of course it depends on your interests. If you are into snow skiing, maybe that isn’t quite as available as it would be at, say, Dartmouth or Middlebury, but I feel confident you can find like minded people for almost whatever you want. Also, there is a very good social scene at the Delmar Loop area not far at all from campus.

Well I’m only a prospective student, so I will not be able to give quite as much insight as a current student could.

However, I have heard that drinking is present on campus but not a major scene like it would be at a state school. It is there and if you wish to drink, you can find a place to do so. It is not overwhelming for those who wish to abstain from drinking, however.

I’ve also heard about a big school carnival that I think is going on this weekend (it begins with a “T” but I can’t remember the name). They also have many cultural activities like Carnaval.

About clubs and politics:
Here is a link to a list of all of the clubs [Student Group Directory | Student Union](http://su.wustl.edu/directory/search/all)
It has info on political clubs (Democrats, Libertarians, Republicans) and many other opputunities like a Culinary Arts Society,an improv comedy group called Mama’s Pot Roast, etc.

@Suzimiya–Political groups are pretty big on campus. They are constantly bringing in interesting speakers. Last year, the College Republicans brought in Alberto Gonzalez and this year they brought in Karl Rove. College Democrats have brought in Mo Rocca. Of course, we also held the VP Debates this year so political activity was really high on this campus with MSNBC, Fox, CNN, CSPAN all bringing news crews. A lot of my friends ended up on MSNBC because they were broadcasting right outside Graham Chapel. One of my friends drove John Oliver (from the Colbert Report) around.

Beer drinking–It’s there if you want to and not there if you don’t want to. Obviously, you can choose a sub-free floor where no one the floor drinks (but they can still go out and drink).

Festivals–Thurtene (except they’ve been writing 14 all around campus) is obviously a big event happening right now. But throughout the year, there’s the multicultural performances such as Diwali, Lunar New Year Festival, Black Anthology, Carnaval, Holi (yesterday), Spirit of Korea (also yesterday), W.I.L.D., etc.

i’m pretty sure that “14” is really a “13”… you have to look at it pretty closely, but the “4” looks like a “3” where the top line has been hung to vertical… i’d assumed it was similar to the “chimes” honorary having a “C” with two (or three) vertical lines inside… maybe i’m grasping at straws though :S

Okay I visited last week, let me explain something

14: the 14s written all over campus to mock the frat 13, which is apparently really secretive. People who are in 13 are juniors and have the 13 with spades/skull on their shirts or something. the 14s are making fun of then. A upperclassmen told me this when I asked them.

And from what I could gather from some of the people I hung out with, everyone is pretty chill. You’ll get everything you want there.

Hrm. I didn’t know that’s what the 14s were for. I thought 14 is was supposed to symbolize the 14 frats and sororities on campus (since AOII joined this year) but… yeah. No idea. The 14s were just really confusing in general.

just came back from multicultural weekend and there were a TON of things to do.

believe me, the party scene at WashU is known to be very good but it really is. you can find a party almost any day of the week and students like to do their own things in their dorms too, so socializing and drinking is no problem.

aside from partying there are plays and concerts to attend. you can go to the loop with your friends and eat at some restaurants or watch a movie. the malls nearby have excellent security and are really nice.

ughh… mall security. yeah so i got kicked out of the galleria a couple weeks ago, because apparently having a WashU ID card isn’t enough to convince a guard that I’m older than 16 ? I really do not look that young, either… It was ok though, because I snuck back in the other entrance. Afterwards I found out that if i’d just asked i could have been escorted to the movie theater inside anyway, which was all i wanted to do lol.

My annoyance aside, it is a good program - i think they only ID you in the mall on Friday nights, which is just to keep things enjoyable for everyone, so i totally understand there.
