What's our generation like?

Take a look at this:

[Will Gen Y Be A Hero Generation? | Brazen Careerist](http://www.brazencareerist.com/2009/04/02/will-gen-y-be-a-hero-generation)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generations_(book)

As a Boomer with a Gen Y kid, I’m rooting for y’all.

That’s bullshιt.

^ Why? There’s situations where it could, possibly.

Its odd someone like yourself, whose posted several chance me threads and has asked numerous questions about how certain classes will affect your gpa, would dispute that. Anyone on CC basically can not dispute that. BTW, I’ve only posted ONE chance me thread.

If anyone wants to feel old, “Enema of the State” by Blink-182 came out 10 years ago…

^^^Damn, it came out that long ago? I still remember the first time I heard “All the Small Things” like it was yesterday. I miss my childhood so bad :frowning: All my fave memories were from my childhood.

Speaking of, for the first time, I spoke with someone who was too young to remember the Spice Girls.

^^^Hahahaha, don’t even get me started on the Spice Girls. I remember in the 2nd grade when they were the most popular thing to talk about and you were considered “cool” if you had a Spice Girls doll, lol. Of course, I never got one :P

I remember when I was like 8 or 9 and my favorite CD was the Cheetah Girls soundtrack LOL

what does that make you, like 14 or something? damn.

it kills me today that high school kids don’t know or appreciate Clueless. greatest film of the 90s, for real.

Blink182-enema of the state- my first CD that I ever got, funny enough I still know all the words to all the songs.

I think our generation will be remebered as one big clusterf**k

Ahh I love reminiscing. I loved Clueless, Kid Pix, Backstreet Boys, Rugrats, All That!.. all of… that (lol).

I do think our generation is something different from before mainly because of the technology. It’s too early to tell what we are “defined” as in a succinct word or phrase, but it will definitely be a theme in 100 years at parties (“50s theme! Rock n’ roll!”… “70s theme, dude!”…).

I miss good cartoons the most.

i downloaded every episode of Hey Arnold

best decision ever

Mine was Ben Folds- Whatever and Ever Amen.

I was too young to understand what “Brick” was really about.

whatever & ever is still on my top 5 records list. i’m actually considering getting a small tattoo of the whatever hands. but i’d have to be real drunk.

I’ve been meaning to do that too. I can’t find a website that has any episodes. I must be looking in the wrong place. I always use Chinese download sites.

And Clueless is ace. I didn’t get any of the jokes until I got older though.

Every generation (i.e. our parents) thinks that the next generation (i.e. we) will be what causes the destruction of humanity, morality, decency, etc. Every generation of teenagers is obnoxious, snotty and bratty. Yet we’re still here today, and our parents who were those obnoxious brats in high school think that of us, so there’s no real reason why we should be the ones to do the human race in once and for all. I mean, I think we’re in a less fear-of-apocalypse state than people in the '50s-'60s were with their bomb shelters and Cold War and Cuban missle Crisis

I think that every generation is defined by the counterculture movement of the time. Flappers in the '20s, hippies in the '60s, rock ‘n’ roll in the '80s (or '50s? '70s? my modern music history isn’t very good) – these are all what we associate these time periods with, yet they really comprised only a small but vocal portion of the youth of that time. I guess, then, the '00s (don’t ask me to pronounce that…) would be associated with hipsters, perhaps? The new and improved hippie, with a little yuppie thrown in for good measure.

And I’m not sure how much technology/facebook/myspace/texting will define our generation. I’m sure that the first generation of teens to use landline phones all the time thought they would be defined by that, yet I’m not even sure which generation they would have been. Probably because all generations after them kept using phones (as we just use new and improved versions of the phones they did back then), and likewise, I don’t see the internet/social networking sites disappearing any time soon, what with middle schoolers now getting on facebook…

I love Clueless! It’s one of my fave 90s movies. I like to quote that line Cher says whenever she’s leaving (“I’m Audi” or something like that). Anyways, this decade is definitely the age of technology. When I look back at this decade, this is what I will remember (and I tend to have a really good memory so I’m gonna list a crapload). This is in no particular order:

September 11th, 2001 (I remember that day so clearly like it happened yesterday)

Anthrax attack (my mom was paranoid about opening letters; it’s amusing when I look back at this)

That plane crashing in Queens a couple of weeks after 9/11 (I remember this because everyone was freakin’ out, thinking it was another attempted terrorist attack)

Hurricane Katrina of 2005

2003 & 2007 California wildfires (I live in SoCal so both events had an effect on me. 2003 was the worst; the sky was thick black with smoke, there were ashes all over the place, the air was so bad that you couldn’t breathe so no one went outside. My city looked like a freakin’ ghost town. School was canceled for nearly 2 weeks in '03 while school was canceled for a week in '07)

2004 tsunami

Economic crisis of the late '00s

The end of Bill Clinton’s presidency

2000 Presidential Election (my parents were upset about the whole electoral votes fiasco)

2004 Presidential Election

Having George W. Bush as president

Historic 2008 Presidential Election with Obama elected as president

War on Terrorism

Virgina Tech shooting

The death of boybands’ popularity (The whole boyband era was fun while it lasted. I enjoyed listening to the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, 98 Degrees, etc.)

The decline of girl groups and groups consisting of boys and girls (I remember when A*Teens and Jump 5 dominated Radio Disney, hahaha)

The death of Aaliyah (I remember the '01 MTV Music Awards did a memorial for her) and other prominent music artists

The death of Heath Ledger (I just didn’t see this one coming) and other prominent actors

The death of TRL (In my opinion, it used to be good when Carson Daly was the host. Should’ve ended years ago after he left.)

My first time to Disneyland in '00 and Walt Disney World in Orlando in '02

Watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in theaters with my friends in '02

Release of money-making blockbusters and sequels (ie., Spiderman I & II, The Dark Knight, LOTR I, II & III, etc.)

Hollywood remakes of classics

Society’s obsession with reality tv (you know it’s getting too much when even Cartoon Network is jumping on that train)

Decline in family sitcoms or just sitcoms in general

The ending of popular shows (Friends, ER, Eight Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, Boy Meets World, Beverly Hills 90210, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, etc.)

Creation of popular shows of the '00s (Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, House, The Mentalist, etc.)

Domination of Rap/“Hip-Hop” on the radio for most of the '00s (so far, the music this decade has lacked variety to me; I don’t need to hear Flo Rida’s “Right Round” 10-15 times an hour)

Rise in teen shows, of many I’ve never found interest in (the OC, Laguna Beach, the Hills, Gossip Girl)

Remake of teen shows from the 90s (90210, Melrose Place)

Name changes of channels (Fox Family—> ABC Family, the WB—> the CW, Court TV—>TruTV, etc.)

The overall decline in quality of channels I enjoyed watching such as Nickelodeon (axing good shows such as Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Doug, Rocko’s Modern Life, All That, Kenan & Kel, Cousin Skeeter, Cat Dog, The Wild Thornberrys, Rocket Power, Ren & Stimpy, As Told By Ginger, Clarissa Explains It All, Double Dare 2000, Figure It Out, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Slime Time Live, etc.), Cartoon Network (LOONEY TUNES, Dexter’s Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, the Animaniacs, Cow & Chicken, Captain Planet, Scooby Doo, etc.), Disney Channel (don’t even get me started on how crappy that channel has become), MTV (Music Television? Yeah right. More like Reality Television. This channel has gone from one that was respected by music lovers to one that has dug itself a ****hole so deep that it can’t even remember its roots–music!) and VH1 (Has declined a lot like MTV, but at least they still show music videos everyday in the morning for a few hours. I enjoy watching the “I Love…” series and the “100 Greatest” series. However, they need to bring back the “Behind the Music” and “Pop-up Video”) series

The surprising long-run of 90s shows, some of whom were fads and need to end, into this decade (ie, Power Rangers, Pokemon, Spongebob)

The rise and dependency of technology (iPods, iPhone, mp3s, laptops, cellphones, Windows 2000, XP, Vista, etc.)

Decline of CD players (I was still using my CD player my freshman year. Didn’t get a iPod until about 2 years ago)

Popularity in Social Networking (Facebook, Myspace, Twitter)

The death of videotapes and the introduction of Blu-Ray

Introduction of Playstation 2 & 3, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360

The decline of kids playing with toys, children board games or just board games in general due to technology (remember Connect-Four, Don’t Wake Daddy, Mouse Trap, Pop Goes Perfection, Sorry, Hot Wheels, Guess Who, Supersoakers, Sock 'Em Boppers, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Barbies, etc. Search 'em up on Youtube and I guarantee you that you’ll have a blast to the past) Speaking of Youtube…

The creation and domination of Youtube

Popularity of texting (It’s as if calling or emailing someone takes too much precious time out of people’s lives. I’m sorry, but I’m not a big fan of texting. You either call/email me, or don’t bother contacting me. I find it ridiculous seeing idiots texting, while driving on the freeway. It’s just as bad as using your cellphone, or even worse.)

Graduating from the 8th grade

Graduating from high school

Going to college

Told ya that I was gonna post a crapload of memories from this decade (along with some rants). I can’t think of anymore at the moment. :stuck_out_tongue: So far, I haven’t really enjoyed this decade as a whole. The majority of my fave memories from this decade are from the early '00s. If I had to describe this decade in only three words, it’d be the three Ts: technology, terrorism and texting. Hopefully the next decade will be better.

i got all mine from torrents. torrentz.com + utorrent = yeaaahhhhhhh

It must have sucked so much for the past generations that didn’t have internet and all of the technology we have available to us today.

I think they just went outside more.
