What's popular major in columbia?

I'm a highschool junior who would like to apply Columbia as ED next year..
What are some popular majors in Columbia??
I'm thinking about majoring in Math/CS/Engineering.. How are these majors?? Does Cornell has better reputation in math/science/engineering areas??

hi thomas, first, think about spell and grammar checking your posts first.

columbia’s most popular majors depend on your school of choice. columbia college or seas (the two traditional undergraduate schools).

for the college -
economics
political science
history
english
biology

for the engineering school (seas) -
industrial and operations research (and their 4 concentrations)
biomedical engineering

Reputation for department strength at the undergrad level is very hard to quantify. Faculty are hired by the research they do, which is what grad school rankings try to measure. For the areas you ask about, both schools are strong. Cornell is better, in general, in engineering. Columbia is ranked slightly higher at math. For sciences it depends on which science or branch of that science. For undergrad, I wouldn’t worry about individual departments at two top schools like these – they are both strong in almost everything. More important is the fit and culture which is a very individual matter.

Why do you care what’s popular? Why don’t you major in what you’re interested in?

C02, I don’t think the OP is saying that he’ll take whatever major is popular at Columbia. I think he wants to know whether there will be other students and professors studying and teaching the majors that he is interested in at Columbia. You may be misinterpreting his post.

“I think he wants to know whether there will be other students and professors studying and teaching the majors that he is interested in at Columbia.”

No, that would make him insecure and needy.

He probably means: “So, what’s Columbia good at?”

^very good point.

thomaschoi should just learn some basic research skills.
