What are the best areas to major in at CC? At SEAS?

Ones that you're interested in and can do well in.

well relatively popular majors in CC and SEAS are econ and biomedical engineering respectively. no idea y u would ask that though....you either got into one or the other.

The most popular majors in CC are English, history, and political science.

Does anyone know anything about the economics-political science major? Is it essentially a double major that is considered only one major? It seems kind of like public policy........

Economics is the most popular major in Columbia College, and a lot of SEAS students have econ minors

Econ-poli sci is essentially a way of combining two interests into one major. It's very popular. Like a lot of majors here, it's what you make of it; it can definitely have a public policy slant if that's what you're interested.

It is a single major. There are different "brands" of economics, and econ-polisci gives you the econ core with a political science emphasis in your electives. The public policy aspect is there.

IEOR and its concentrations

Keeping in topic, how is Columbia’s philosophy department? Do they concentrate on historical analysis and (i.e. great thinkers & thoughts) or logic? NYU has one of the highest ranked graduate departments in the world, but I’m not interested in going and wonder how Columbia compares. I would assume that the two university’s departments benefit from cordial relations with each other.

Financial Engineering concentration in IEOR is top notch
