wow, i didnt know that.

the only things i hate about syracuse is:
the F***KING winter
campus isnt as nice as Fordham
OD hardcore parties, makes me think of a state school.
4-5 hours away from home.
HUGE class size

hey can anyone tell me how the parties at Fordham are? like what do you do? IF you dont party, what else do you do?

Fordham’s more of a bar school. You’re in a major city so I’m sure there’s plenty to do.

The responses to Fordham’s “social life” have missed the point a little.

Yesyes, there is New York City right there; that doesn’t mean Fordham itself has an especially lively social life.

When someone asks “how’s the social life” that person usually means if people at a particular college give a crap about building a communitythat is, socializing on campus instead of fleeing to Manhattan (or whatever metropolis a college happens to be closest to).

For Fordham, to be honest, no. A large commuter population as well as a heavy security presence push socializing off-campus, to apartment parties as well as clubs in Manhattan.

You won’t find a cohesive community; not everyone wants one.

But be aware that, compared to other colleges, there isn’t a whole lot of fun to be had at Fordham in the traditional college sense.

so what do you guys usually do when you hang out?

I agree with monorail. I think that Fordham does not do enough to encourage an active social life on campus. Lots of people spend lots of time at local bars while those not into that scene end up just hanging out with friends on campus or going to Arthur Ave. and Manhattan. I think the school depends on these outside options for its students and is relatively lazy about bringing things onto campus on a weekly basis (weekend movies, entertainment, activities). Other colleges seem to have more campus based activities. Don’t get me wrong, there are always things to do, just often not related to the school.

Fordham is one of the top Jesuit colleges in the nation and Jesuit schools are highly regarded academically. Here is the list of all 28 Jesuit colleges:

Okay. And…?
That doesn’t mean the students are or are not happy–which is what I think Kingsta was trying to find out about, not its academics.

yeah, im not really a drinker. So im kind of happy to the fact Fordham isn’t a fraternity school.

im more of a “Hey lets chill at Times Square” lol.

& 1980collegegrad, i already know about its academics! i wanted to know thinks through the students eyes.

I don’t know anyone goes to Times Square. Most people here hate Times Square.

Well you know what i mean. Everywhere around the city basically, SoHo, Broadway, etc.

Fordham has a great academic and social life balance. We are in New York City, the heart of entertainment. Fordham does a great job of organizing activities for students to do in the city, such as discounted Yankees tickets or Broadway show tickets. Also, Fordham organizes many events on campus, such as concerts, comedians, and movies.
