The only thing that sucks about UCR is the fact that its in Riverside. I’ve been there…otherwise, it’s still a UC and probably a great school.

@kc20cali: YES, I think we all can agree that UC Merced is the worst UC for now. I’m sure no one here would disagree with that statement. You can also say it is the “least best” if the wording really matters that much. Give it some time, say about a 100 more years and it could be really good. It may even surprise us by trumping many of the pre-existing UC’s but as of now, it is the worst UC.

@ beyphy: Dude,■■■■■ at your comment about UC Davis.hahahhahahaha…you definitely made my day.but regarding Davis;is it that big?I been around UCLA and I thought that campus was huge.I can’t imagine Davis.

Davis and LA are about the same in size now. I don’t know where you get your info from…

Also Davis is about 20 minutes from downtown sacramento, and 1.5 hrs from san fran… thats a good location if you ask me…

@walleats

I get what everyone says when they say “worst UC”, and maybe its the terminology that does bug me. But the worst UC is alot better than most CSU schools.

UCLA’s physical size is exceptionally tiny compared to UCD and UCSC. And of course UCD has their own fire department. So does UCSC. It’s sort of necessary when your physical size is too big to allow the city’s own fire department to get to you in time to do any good ;)

If I’m recalling the numbers correctly, UCD is over 5,000 acres, UCSC is just over 2,000 acres, and UCLA is just over 400 acres. Been awhile since I looked up the exact campus sizes, though. However, I doubt UCLA has gained a significant amount of land in the couple years since I researched campus sizes.

As for why people look down on any college: we’re a society of peer pressure and some people need to feel good about themselves and follow the currently accepted “judgment of quality” source. At this time, this happens to be a listing of colleges that are weighed against each other by various factors using a formula that is not public knowledge. It’s pretty sad that some people have such low confidence in their own ability that they need to rely on the achievements of others to feel they’re worth something, isn’t it?

Ew, Riverside…right in the middle of the armpit of California. Meth addicts and lifted trucks galore. Might as well go to school in the middle of Iowa or something.

Riverside is also about an hour away from the beach, less than an hour away from mountains and about two hours from San Diego and an hour or less from Los Angeles. Im not a big fan of the city, but the downtown of R-side does have decent coffee shops and some shopping/bars/rest. etc. And the air quality of southern California period is pretty horrendous. Just sayin.

I don’t if I made the best choice or not, but I decided to attend a JC over ucr. UCLA’s always been my dream, and I’m actually doing good, hopefully I make it out of the JC with a 4.0 :)
