"Sharing intellectual interests is an important aspect of university life. Describe an experience or idea that you find intellectually exciting, and explain why. (1500 character limit)"

What exactly are they looking for here? I have no idea where to even start with this one :-/ ...can anyone give me any advice? or tell me what they have/will write about? Anyone know what other people have written about?

Basically I just dont know where to start/what they want...so any tips would be great :) ...thanks

Personally, I wrote about the Millenium Problems published by the Clay Institute (seven most noteworthy problems in mathematics, with a million dollar prize for the solution of each). Just find something that interests you intellectually, and above all, sound excited/curious about it. They're looking for "intellectual vitality"...

ender: pretty interesting topic...
op: i think you can talk about something very personal to you...maybe a book you read..that's an intellectual experience...again...it's what you get out of even the most common experiences that matters...

I just wish I had room to go into more depth. By the time I explained how the problems were chosen and what the precedents were, I had literally no room to talk about the specifics, and I had to re-write it a bunch of times just so I could talk about why it interests me.

Hmm. I wrote something but am not sure if it answers the topic. Would you guys mind reading it? I think the theme is commonplace, but probably not the style.
Here is it:

You are euqinu, P___, my walking dictionary friend, told me one day. I had no idea what euqinu meant until it looked it up in a dictionary. Euqinu is something or someone that undergoes a change or experiences contrast. An euqinu person likes to be with people, meticulous and cooperating with a friend until an assignment is completed, but often needs to retreat to his quiet room to recover from a days activities. Such a word also describes people who strives for new heights and isnt afraid of failure but rather survives with brands and wounds that make him stronger. Euqinu people are usually scared of skeletons and corpses while young, but have grown to be intrigued by them. They usually pursue a major in materials science or biological sciences and become doctors.
After reading the definition, I decided that there is no one who fits this definition better than me. There is a separate adjective that describes every one in this world, even you. The thought that there is something different to learn from every person in the world is a notion that we must embrace and use to our benefit to enrich our lives

It also anagrams into unique! (I thought that was where the essay was going at first... studies how the human brain can read mispelled words easily.)

yeah, really, that's what I thought. I used this essay for some other school but I trired twisting the words a little to make it fit the prompt. obviously, it didn't work.

ok, this might sound strange, but can I write about my thoughts on golf swing technique? I've read numerous books on the golf swing (I also play BTW :-)) and I believe I know more about the golf swing than 98% of golfers and most definitely know the most of any kid in the school, and maybe the county. I mean...I can talk about the 24 components of the swing defined by TGM (The Golfing Machine) and the 4 power accumulators and the two most dominant stroke patterns (hitting and swinging) and different right elbow positions at impact (pitch, punch, bat) and the impact geometry, etc., but how would the adcoms view this? It's not something academic, but it is very intellecutal and scientific, since much of my ideas come from TGM which is the most technical book ever written on the swing. I'm just afraid this topic might create a strange image.

I wrote about immigration issues and a personal experience I had.. (I live very close to the US-Mexican border). Hopefully I managed to turn a dull topic interesting... =)

I was thinking about writing about the concept of "free will". Being a christian (and my app is full of ECs and community service involving that background) i was thinking of talking about the concept of free will and God's omniscience working together at the same time.. but then i thought it might be too controversial.. wat do u think?

i don't think its too controversial but what does it tell me about who you are? (other than you know your christian theology) Include an example of a time you used free will and how it affected you as a person in addition and I think you're getting somewhere. I'd be interested in reading what you have to say on free will though, my e-mail is aquahobbist@yahoo.com/email.
