What's taking them so long?

So I applied to transfer to UB in the last week of May as soon as my Spring grades came out. It’s been almost 3 weeks now and I haven’t gotten a decision yet. My GPA was a 2.9 and I applied as a Business Administration major. My first question is if a 2.9 is good enough to be admitted into UB this late? And my other question is do you think June is too late to be admitted? I’m only saying that becasue their website has a “no-guarantee” for housing after May 1st. Also, for transfers, there minimum gpa requirement is a 2.5 only to be “considered” so I’m wondering if a 2.9 really even separates me from the competition. I’m just curious to know if it’s too late and also if a 2.9 is good enough. Becasue I can always take more credits at MCC to boost that 2.9. Thank You  any response is helpful!!

Are your sure your application is complete? That your transcripts from your old school, and high school if necessary, have arrived? It may be worth checking!

I am a NYS resident and it is JMHO but I believe that GPA is too low even during regular admissions. You didn’t say what your SAT socres are. Maybe they are very high and could make the difference?

@Empireapple I spoke to one of their admissions advisor’s in person and she told me if I had at least a 2.5 at the end of the Spring semester I would be admitted no questions asked. I’m starting to think she was just bullshitting me, what do you think?

My son applied one week ago to a local SUNY college as a transfer. He got a note today in the mail saying they had received his application, and to make sure he sent his transcripts (they’ve been requested already.) It also includes an ID number and a site where he can check the progress of his application.

DId you receive a similar note from Buffalo? If not, that’s where I would start-- call and ask whether they’ve received your application.

At this point, it’s less about getting in and simply a question of knowing your status.

Did you also apply elsewhere as a backup? If not, then I would do so today.

Among the schools in the SUNY system I’ve never considered Buffalo to be one that admitted “no questions asked” but who knows…maybe the GPA will be enough. It could depend on where you are transferring from. I know there are direct transfer routes from many community colleges in the SUNY system so maybe you are all set. Why not call them and ask again.

@bjkmom I did get an email with and ID number and they said they have all the transcripts they needed but in order to check my application status a password is required which they didn’t give me.

@Empireapple The school I’m transferring from is MCC and at the meeting I had with the admissions advisor was already acting as if I was admitted. This was in early May. She basically just looked through my classes and was telling me which classes are transferable and not, told me about the 2.5 gpa thing, and like I said was acting like I’d be going to UB for the Fall 2017 semester. I was left with my hopes up and in a bit of confusion. MCC does have direct transfer routes with UB but not for my major (Business Administration). Do advisors typically act like this or will they be brutally honest with you in these meetings?

Also to note, this advisor did mention that my gpa would start fresh with UB and I will have to take all their pre-reqs, so I’m hoping they will take a chance on me

I do not know what MCC is. I think you just need to call admissions. You can at least ask them about setting up a password.
