How about the Galleria in Roseville? Arden Fair?

or, rather, i thought i would’ve wanted a more urban campus, but i’m starting to love davis’ overall location. =)

You won’t be disappointed.

Yeah, I wouldn’t have chosen Davis if it was more urban. I enjoy quick visits to cities, but after a few hours I’m over it.

In my opinion…

Best: Welcoming atmosphere of campus and town, Scenery, architecture, school spirit

Worst: Very similar to my hometown (only thing I can think of… and it’s not even really a con for me)

Jesuis, i thought you were going to UCSD?

^ I thought so too haha. After admit day, I decided against it.

lol okay. yeah i definitely saw you all over the SD boards back when I was totally bent on SD. Buuut I got rejected from my top choice. ah well. aggies! :)

I’m a transfer student about to finish my first year (taking summer classes, bleh) but I’d say the the best aspects of Davis are definitely the relaxing environment and down to earth people. I’m from southern CA, and I’ve found that people here are very friendly and genuine, unlike most of the people from back home. The campus and downtown are also very welcoming.

The only con I can think of is the location in regards to the surrounding areas. Woodland isn’t the nicest area, and you do have to travel pretty far to go to a mall. Sacramento is the closest major city, and it’s also not the nicest area. A con for me personally is that I’m a six hour drive from home, but I never really got homesick up here, thankfully.

What I like about Davis is the small-town college atmosphere it brings while just within minutes to a major city, Sacramento. It reminds me a lot of when I lived back in the NJ/NYC area a few years ago before moving to CA. I can go from suburbia to city and back, while experiencing the best of both worlds in 20 mins or less.

The worst thing? The weather I suppose. I’ve been traveling back and forth from Sac to San Jose a lot recently and it’s really, really hot up there compared to here in the Valley.

Best: College town. Bicycle friendly and flat. You save money due to few shopportunites. Clean. Chill students. Doesn’t have Berkeley’s panhandling street people. Lacks the many study distractions of the SF Bay Area.

Worst: Too many bikes if you need to bike during a busy time thru a bike intersection. Limited convenient shopping. (Better small, cheap stores in Berkeley.) Due to flatness of the area, allergens can travel for miles to find you. Can be a bit boring.

Lol I just read the ucsd thing I’ve lived like 15 minutes from there all my life and there’s a mall that borders the campus and apartments

i have to say, #50 is a very fair comment. as for cal, one of the things that can be a HUGE turnoff is the homeless/panhandling population. the so-called ‘hobos’ can be very aggressive, and it can be argued that the university doesn’t do enough to protect students from encounters with them.

oops, too late to edit. this is the best and worst things about DAVIS thread (not about cal and its hobo issues). sorry to go off, lol!!!
