What's the best dorm?

I applied for housing right when it opened for summer and got priority number 19 (I probably got good karma here because my fall is much worse), so I'm assuming I'll be able to get my first preference, especially since I chose hall preference. So I want to know, what really is the best dorm? I think my first choice is currently DeGraff. Thanks!

Is it true that the lower the priority number the better dorm you get?

As of my knowledge, yes. Understandably why I want to make sure I get the best with such a low number

Yes. The lower your priority number, the better your chances at securing a room in the dorm of your choice.

Hard to say what the best dorm would be. That is a very individual decision.

So it goes from 1-50? or how…?

it goes up to however many people apply… (thousands)

when they say priority number it basically means that’s your spot in line for housing, so if your priority number is 5,000. you are 5,000 in line for that housing

the best dorms considered by most people are
(randomly)
Landis
Degraff
Broward Hall
Gilchrist Hall
Reynolds Hall
(you guys can freely add to this i can’t remember all of them but basically on the east side of campus are where you can find the newly renovated and suite-style dorms)

one of the worst dorms or dorms that most don’t want to be stuck with are:
(randomly)
Dorman Hall
Salley Hall
Smith Hall
(again you guys can add to this )

these are what i consider to be the best and the worst

Degraff tends to be the party hall over the summer. Not sure what you’re looking for, but that should help you decide whether or not you want to keep Degraff.

You can’t really go wrong with your summer hall. Once you’ve seen one of the renovated ones on the East Side, you’ve really seen them all, so just pick based on location. Jennie, Reynolds, and Bryan are a one minute walk from Suwannee (the cafeteria), Cawthon is right on Landis Green and right next to the library (about a 4 minute walk from Suwannee), and Gilchrist is a fine choice as well.

I’m interested on Degraff too.
What’s it like in the fall? I’m planning to attend FSU this fall…

just be aware that Degraff is across a major street. It’s not far by any means, but it’s not right on the campus as the others. There’s a tunnel that runs under the street that the police discourage use at night. Wildwood is very similar but is on campus.

A few (3?) of the dorms have wifi. I wish my dorm had wifi now…it’s a wireless world now, except in my dorm.

What’s it like living in Wildwood?

Which is better, suite style or community? I hear the suites are newly renovated but which dorms have the best location on campus? Also, are you more likely to meet more people in community or suite style?

you will meet more people in the community style dorms. Students in the suite style in my son’s dorm (Broward) keep their doors closed and there’s little interaction.

Absolutely zero question that you will meet more people and make more friends in a community style hall versus suite style. If you are willing to sacrifice a nicer room for a better social experience, you might actually prefer community to suite style.

Thanks wtztu and matt125. I just really want a social dorm where its easy to have a good time  and I’m willing to sacrifice how nice it is to an extent…
