I'd like to rush, but so far there are so many chapters, and I know very little about them all.
I'd to join a sorority that's academically excellent but also socially outstanding and especially one that has the least substandard reputation, such as being skanky, drugged, shady etc...
Thank you very much! :D

Greekrank.com

Naw… we have more than 60 chapters. Greekrank is too limited.

Actually, I found a list on the Greek Life page of all the fraternities/sororities (non-academic/medical/business) and their GPAs, and it says we have 59 chapters.

Close enough.

sbn, would you please post that URL?

That’s an old list and we do indeed have more than 60 chapters now - barely. I think 61 as of Fall 2008. The GPAs and ranks also vary WIDELY for some chapters between semesters so I’d look at more than one list.

Anyway, it’s not about what sorority is “Best” but about which girls you click with most. You should find this out from rushing. You’ll be able to tell if they’re slutty/fake/intelligent/driven/etc., I’m sure. If you aren’t a good judge of character then you’ll have more problems in life than which sorority to be a part of hah…

Honeybacon, I assume you’re talking about the sororities in the Panhellenic Association, as opposed to the NPHC (the council governing UMD’s multicultural and historically black sororities).

If that’s the case, there are 14 houses you can choose from. Like umcp11 suggested, recruitment week (typically the first week of spring semester) is the time to form your own opinions of each chapter. You’ll definitely hear plenty of rumors and opinions from others, but I strongly suggest you keep an open mind. Some of the sororities might also have open house events towards the end of fall semester, which you should try to find out about attending so you can meet some of the sisters before spring recruitment.

If you are talking about the NPHC sororities, you have 11 (I believe) sororities to choose from. I think you’ll find that for the NPHC chapters, the reputations you’re concerned about such as studious/slutty/etc. are not as widely whispered about around campus. Also, these organizations have a different recruitment process that will give you an enormous amount of insight into the personalities of each chapter.

If you want more info (particularly about the PHA sororities, which I’m most familiar with) feel free to PM me.

It depends on what you’re looking for…
There’s white sororities, black sororities, asian sororities, and one “official” multicultural sorority.
In the fall they have “Meet the Greeks” where you can go around and meet all the sororities regardless of council.
