I have been looking for an artsy dorm at MIT, and I came across Bexley.

I've read that the building is under-capacity, they "anti-rush" freshmen, and are very "different."
What does this mean?
Enigmatic!!!

snerk They’d like you to think so, but all the dorms are different from each other, and several are very “different” from mainstream society.

They are technically not allowed to anti-rush. The point is that they want frosh who like the dorm enough to want to live there despite any barriers put in their way.

If you like “different” and “artsy”, I will point you (in a rough sort of order that’s largely based on my perceptions of “artsy”) at Senior Haus, East Campus (parts of it, anyway), Bexley, and Random Hall. Possibly also Next House, since they do some theater stuff. Senior Haus would be my first recommendation to you, as “artsy” is part of their identity. However, you should look at all the dorms eventually. Even if you’re pretty sure you won’t be interested in some of them. You at least want to know what you’re turning down.

Basically they treat freshman like absolute crap and do horrible things like extreme hacking, and throwing buckets of water down you every time you walk inside.

Next does not really have anything artsy, I agree with everything else OP said,

^ Next House still has a very theater-involved house, no?

(I’ll also note that you’ve revived a two-years-plus-old thread. I seem to remember Next House being involved in a bit of theater two years ago.)

Actually, when I was on campus the most “artsy” place for a male to live, was TEP (Tau Epsilon Phi). As much variation as there is in the dorm system, there is even more in the fraternity, sorority, and independent living group system.

Random Hall, EC, and Senior House are all quite artsy. I’ve never been inside Bexley. Maybe they’re artsy too.

I think you should consider that “artsy” is a very broad word. I think all of MIT is in some way artsy, just because you need a non-negligible level of creativity to get into MIT. A lot of the dorms (not just on the East Side) allow residents to paint on the walls and ceilings, both in the rooms and in the hallways. It’s more about finding your specific brand of artsy.

Bexley is artsy in the sense that there is swearing, and rebel messages everywhere. It is very lewd and not the faint hearted, lol.
