So I’ve been accepted to some schools (Humboldt state, San Diego State honors college, Cal Poly Pomona, San Jose State, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Davis) and I’m wondering what happens with scholarships at these schools. If they haven’t notified me of award money (merit only, I don’t qualify for financial) by now, am I finished? Or will they send out official letters at the end of the month with offers? I know money is tight in California, but I’ve known a few people who’ve been offered merit aid in past years.
Thanks!
Are you instate?
Funds for our California schools are really limited so if you don’t qualify for a Calgrant, Blue & Gold or the MCS, then look to your loans for help. As a freshman, you will be limited to $5500 per YEAR.
From another thread the OP is apparently from the Bay area so should be eligible for Cal Grant and Blue/Gold.
The OP has already said she doesn’t qualify for need-based aid. She wants to know when MERIT awards will be posted. @fidoprincess, do you know the answer?

CSUs are notoriously bad with merit.
The UCs tend to give merit to SOME of their tippy top applicants.
Are you a top applicant? What are your stats?
If your stats are not tippy top for Davis or Santa Cruz, then you probably won’t get any merit based aid.
Calif school are very focused on providing need based aid. They aren’t focused at all on providing merit based aid.
What are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay each year?

Your ACT score is not likely high enough for merit. Even at Santa Cruz, your 29 is at the bottom of the upper quartile. Since only top students in the upper quartile would likely be offered merit, then it doesn’t look good for your situation.
Did you apply anywhere where a 29 would get good sized merit?
