<p>All departmental rankings are based on research expenditure and research output. These rankings do not measure teaching ability or quality of classroom experience.</p>
<p>Because the priorities of the College’s professors are teaching first and research second, and due to the absence of a “publish or perish” culture at the College, Amherst’s departments cannot be compared to those of universities with regards to expenditure and output.</p>
<p>To answer your request–the latest NRC (The National Research Council) rankings of research universities will be out late September.</p>
