what's the difference between community service and internship??? also how many hours of community service do u recommend in order to get to a decent college?

An internship is generally more formal with you agreeing to work specificed hours and days. For community service you may just help with one event or show up to help sporadically.

I have no idea on the number of hours you need. You should also consider the quality of the assignment and how it helps you develop new skills or learn more about a particular profession or area of interest.

community service= purely voluntary
internship= to build specific skills over extended period of time, paid or unpaid.

an adcom at Stanford told me its not the quantity, but the quality. He gave the example: one kid spend 800 hours CS with church, other kid spend 100 hours starting his own program to assist refugee children learn english in the context of playing soccer, and he was a star soccer player, etc, so it fit and was a lot more impressive than 800 standard issue church hours.

An internship is really, really different, especially if it's a paid internship. An intern has responsibilities to hold, assignments to complete, working hours, and (for the good internships) a paycheck. An intern is essentially an employee, while a volunteer isn't.
