What's the difference?

I want to buy campbell biology book.
What's the difference between the 7th and 8th edition?

There really isn’t much of a difference. However, there will be a difference in the price. My class used the 7th edition this year and it was a GREAT book

not much. it actually doesn’t even matter which textbook you use as long as you have a good review book. Your textbook should be used for reference (in the case of AP bio, maybe not for others). I used the 5th edition this year because I got it for free. i read almost every chapter and made notes of most of the chapters, but i studied the CLIFFS WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY MOREEEEE. A textbook is necessary though, for visuals and diagrams especially. you can just rent it at chegg.com.

the rental price is $40 and buying the same used book is $45…

Oh! Last time i checked it was $20 to rent, but that was a couple of months ago. Buy it so you can resell and make $$ O:)

Ohh haha okay.
I’m just going to buy the book. :)

What about the prep books?
I’m planning on buying cliffs w/CD & cliffs flash cards.
Is that okay?

The font in the 8th edition is harder to read (IMO) than the 7th edition. I haven’t compared the content (my teacher has the 8th edition so I only skimmed through it; we use the 7th edition in class), but I assume that the 8th edition is updated and revised with new information as biology is always changing with new research. Anyways the Campbell books are serious overkill for AP Biology exam.

^^You probably don’t need the flashcards, but the CD maybe useful for practice tests. I didn’t use these, just the prep book + the cliffsAP 5 Biology tests. You can get soooo many flashcards at Quizlet.com that you wont even have time to look at them all. Seriously, there are thousands for AP Bio, plus thousands for SAT Bio.

I’m not buying it just for AP Bio exam but because there are so many things I want to know more about bio.
I like to keep textbooks and read them when I have time.
So campbell+cliffs?

@risubu
are the tests on cliffsAP 5 Biology tests same as the ones on the prep book or different?

sounds goodie! And yes, the tests are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT :D

Really? Haha thats good.
Are the tests similar to real AP exam?

I’d say so, but i never really explored my options for that part, so I suppose I’m biased. I bet somebody on CC says that some prep book has better, “real” prac. questions than Cliffs. Some books work better for other people. However, I doubt there would be that big of a difference. There are only so many ways you can ask the difference between xylem/phloem, cell membranes/cell walls, etc. I believe that the idea of prac. questions is to test what you know and how well you learned, and any prep book can do that.

Wow. Um. Yeah, I sound like a regular old CC’er up there. Sorry I couldn’t answer your question!

Its okay! I know what you mean.
I guess I’ll be doing some released exams (if there are any) to prep. :)
