What's the dumbest reason you applied/didn't apply to a school?

I'm not applying to Harvey Mudd because everyone (my parents, my friends, my counselors) keeps telling me to apply there. =/

Northwestern - applying there because almost all of my friends are applying there. I have no idea what the school is like, and I'm gonna have to write an essay about the "unique qualities of Northwestern" for the supplement... hmm I should start on that soon.

Harvey Mudd - applying because their website & brochures are so witty. haha but I don't think I'd go there if I got in.

NYU - applying because I've always wondered what it's like to live in NY... even though NYU doesn't have a "traditional" campus, and I don't like that.

Johns Hopkins - not applying because I didn't want to write an essay about why I chose my specific major.

Berkeley - applying to see if I can get in, but I probably wouldn't go.

Rice - applying because there's no application fee, but now I'm actually kindof considering it... :)

Cornell - applying because it's supposedly "easier" to get in and it's an Ivy, and I want to see if I can get into an Ivy.

So basically... I'm wasting ~$60 x 7, plus SAT & ACT score report money on schools I don't really want to go to. Go me.

I applied to Seton Hall because they sent me a fast and free application... and then I got in and got the Regent's Scholarship for full tuition... but I have no interest in going there. And now my friend is mad at me because I let slip about the scholarship because I figured she'd gotten money, too, and when she asked me "oh, can I still apply for those scholarships?" I blinked at her and told her I don't know, I didn't apply to any colleges, they just sent it with my admissions packet. And to top it all of, when she asked if that's where I'll definitely be going I told her "not if I get in anywhere else". Hm. I should maybe have phrased that whole conversation better.

Also, I applied to Drexel because their mascot is a dragon and because they sent me a free app. I got in w/ money but have absolutely no interest in going.

I didn't apply to Amherst because my dad and I got lost while looking for the school, so we decided to skip it and just have lunch. Then, on the way out of town, we passed a big sign that said "AMHERST COLLEGE". We just drove away, and crossed the school off the list... we decided it wasn't meant to be.

I didn't apply to Swarthmore because they put a black netting thing on all the windows in this one glass-walled building so birds wouldn't run into the glass and die. And because the school is called Swarthmore.

I applied to Harvard because it is Harvard, which is probably the stupidest reason ever. I didn't even like it that much when I toured. But I want to know if I'll get in.

I try to avoid schools in the middle of the country because my favorite musical artist always sings about the west coast and the "sunshine state" (I live in Florida now)

my fam.watched the movie- the Notebook, which Ithink everyone here knows about.

My mom got a little too into the characters, although I kept on reminding her that they weren't real..well she doesn't care, n now she's forcing me to apply to the uni. that the girl (main character played by Rachel McAdams) went to- St. Lawrence University. my Mom totally LOVES it, just b/c it seems 'romantic' lolol
i heard it's a pretty fine school, but I haven't visited and I know so little about the place..I can't believe someone can fantasize this much..hahaha

OUCH about colgate..ur missed out not applying...

but i didnt apply to hamilton because its supplement sucks

i refuse to apply to tufts because of tufts syndrome. not that i'm overqualified. because i'm not. but still.

My D craves the sun so much after growing up in the PNW that she is just applying to schools in SoCal; not sure if that's a great reason but it certainly narrows things down fast.

My son decided not to apply to Haverford because he found out they refer to time as B.C.E./ C.E. instead of BC/AD and it irks him. But, he is applying to Columbia. Illogical :)

isn't B.C.E./C.E. today's "correct" form? i'm not sure.

I didn't apply to columbia because I wanted to apply to some easier ivies and knew i was going to be rejected (although my dad went there).

I sent BU my SAT I scores intending to apply there, only to realise that I needed two SAT IIs to apply to Boston University if I intended to major in film.

Since I'm also applying to NYU Tisch, USC and Texas as a film major, and they don't require SAT IIs, and I would only go to BU if the other three schools rejected me, I didn't apply there.

A while later, a friend who's at Northwestern asked me if she might see me there next year. For some bizarre reason, I never considered Northwestern, and I haven't the faintest idea why. Did a bit of research, and they DON'T require SAT IIs. Then I considered applying there - except I'd already used up my four free SAT score spots, and I wouldn't go to Northwestern either if one of the other schools accepted me. So I decided to keep my money.

I was a bit compulsive since I was applying to pretty much all GPPA programs (guaranteed graduate school programs), which is really hard to get into; I had a list of 7 college applications. Since I have already been accepted to 2/2 programs that I've heard from, I'm a little bit more relaxed and I think I'm going to drop my application to Boston University... mostly because I was simply too lazy to answer their supplement of "Why do you want to go to Boston University?" I hate those questions, because I simply just want to type, "Because you're freaking amazing - that's why! Is that what you wanted to hear?" Yeah, so I guess my reason is a combination of laziness + disliking of the essay question.

Didn't apply to St. Louis cause I didn't want to be a Billiken. Simply don't like the mascot.

Darmouth, Harvard, Cornell, Georgetown - Didn't want to take the SAT IIs

Princeton & Columbia (I think) - Didn't want to take more tests

Carnegie Mellon & University of Pittsburgh (though heavily recruited for Honors college) - I would never, ever attend a school in Pittsburgh just because of their hockey team. I hate the Pittsburgh Penguins. Especially Crosby.

didnt apply to tulane because its in new orleans and i didnt want to have to evacuate every year b/c of a hurricane

my parents won't let me apply to BU not because of the exorbitant price tag, but because they believe there will be too many J.A.P.s (don't feel like explaining the acronym in public, message me if you wanna know [btw, nothing to do wit Japanese] )

i used 2 live in Pomona, New York too but i loved it

I seriously tried to only apply to schools that had school colors that allowed mainstream sweatshirts to be dark in color. << Circuitous phrasing, but I think I got the point across.

im not applying to any jesuit schools because im a jew :)

haha actually its because they're generally very expensive

Nooob, My son has gone to Catholic school all his life. He is used to the AD ( Anno Domini- latin for in the year of Our Lord). It is too politically correct for him.

Oh,the things you can think!
