only applied to twelve thank goodness.

I didn't apply to UChicago because of the essays. I ended up applying to 7 schools.

Son didn't apply to one because he couldn't tweak any one of the several essays he had already written to fit the application's question. He figured if he felt that mediocre about the application, he probably wasn't very invested in the school. Ya think? :)

I didn't apply to Mary Washington because I heard that everyone there listens to country music.

I applied to Loyola Maryland because it says on the school's website that the campus is located on "80 wooded acres."

I ruled out American for a long time because I hated the name. "American University." What a lame name. Now it's my top choice (well, it shares the spot with GWU: I'll narrow it down when I visit). Go figure.

Well, it was not really a stupid reason since I didn't have a choice...I only applied to UW-Milwaukee because I'll be 16 when I start college and too young to move out. Otherwise, I would've applied to UW-Madison (and probably would've gotten in). Oh well :(

Did Not:
Harvard, Penn, Yale = Essays

Did:
Rice = Some kid on these forums said I'd like it (seriously, that's the only reason.... and I visited and thought it was awesome)
Cornell, Brown = Ivy (yea, stupid, who cares about the title... don't really have a reason for liking either school... but I needed a couple token Ivy applications :D )

I applied to a school because of a girl. I'm sure that one's original.

I applied to UC San Diego ten minutes before midnight on the deadline day because I realized could apply to one more school for free with my fee waiver. I only remembered I applied when I got an acceptance letter. Now I actually have to research the school and Roosevelt college, but i actually might go, so I'm glad I tacked it on!

I didn't apply to American University because it's right next to my high school and I do not want to see people I know from hs all the time. :)

I also did not apply to any colleges in the South (except Washington and Lee) because I love to ski and supposedly there's no snow. (We Washingtonians do not refer to D.C. as the South). I also was not going to apply to Cornell because I did not really like the name when I was a sophomore, but I think it's actually hip now.

I'm a Yale alumni volunteer. One day I was presenting at an area HS College Fair. A young lady came up to ask if Yale had a student-run TV station. I told her that I had no knowledge of one but I knew that many grads eventually go to work in television/media. She said: "OK, I think I'll pass on Yale."

My obvious thought was: "She's basing her decision on a school like Yale on whether or not it had a TV STATION? What is she thinking?"

I guess she didn't fully understand yet the value of a liberal arts education.

pliverpool-Same here, didn't apply to any schools in the south because of the serious lack of snow/snowboarding available. (and by the way DC is totally in the south! New York is about the cut off for us New Hampshirites!)

I applied to UCLA so i could be closer to Britney Spears.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, StevenWheatland. I think that just made my day.

Let's see... I was absolutely in love with Vanderbilt. Like I have a shirt, a sweatshirt, lanyard... drove 10 hours to visit, etc. I mean I LOVED this school and my stats aligned perfectly. I didn't apply because a) the highway leading up to Nashville was boring and b) there were a whole bunch of crosses (like the three big crosses together) along the highway... like every 2 miles. I don't believe in Jesus. I was afraid backwoods religious freaks would hunt me down or something.

This is ridiculous, I know, but unfortunately true. haha

My reasoning for not applying to University of Delaware:
When I was like 12 we were thinking about moving (from MD) and I was making suggestions. "Well how about Delaware?" My mom just looked at me like I was being outrageous and responded "Sweetie... no one moves to Delaware on purpose..."

hahaha. I still don't know what exactly she has against DE.

I applied to Penn State Main because my step dad said i couldnt get in anyway.
Guess where ived been accepted.
Better yet, guess where im going.
Yeah, penn state main

Oh, here's another.
I was done with my UPenn application, and my supplement was one essay-away from being completed. I had paid for it, and sent my high school transcripts and SATs.
But i was too lazy to finish that ONE ESSAY.
and so i gave up on UPenn lol.
I figured that if i was too lazy to write that one essay then i didnt belong there

applied to Yale to be poached by another school
also applied to VaTech because of middle school GF...from another state

didn't apply to caltech because the professor that killed pluto's planetary status teachers there.

i like pluto.

oscar-good for u : )
lord-lol :D
msf-your mom's response made me laugh :p
plus, "I don't believe in Jesus. I was afraid backwoods religious freaks would hunt me down or something."
i have the same semi-innate fear, haha. my friend was telling me about his visit to southern schools & southern hospitality & stuff. but i was sort of like yeah.....:/
