...the University of Michigan (academically, socially, etc)? I'm just wondering because it is sometimes hard to gauge it in "real life". Just wandering thought... and feel free to add schools or compare. Thanks

Great academics, fun college town, pretty co-eds, and good sports. What's not to like?

^ well, for one thing, this past year was abysmal for them in football. jk, they're still a powerhouse football program. but yea, it's pretty much an awesome all-around school

Well, if you're out-of-state, you can probably find an equally costly private school that gives a lot more personal attention.

This may be true, but I have two friends at Michigan getting their PhDs in engineering and philosophy. One went to Cornell, the other Swarthmore, and they are both very impressed with the amount of attention that Michigan undergrads get.

That said, I have half a dozen friends in the Michigan Economics PhD program, and the undergrad attention is kind of lacking there just because of the sheer number of economics undergrads.

good school, make sure you like the cold
