Is it a big deal? easy to join into? Fun? considering rushing next year

sop520,

My DS just got into a frat and loved every painful moment. It took a lot of time & work; they were very demanding. As a parent my first reaction was “no way”; however, being at a distance where I had no arm to keep him at bay he went for it. I can say now I’m very happy he did it. As a freshman he now has some very close bonds with new friends. I’m certain he will stay in touch with in the years to come.

His frat required a certain amount of hours in the library, blood drive vol. hours, sober driving (great lessons in this), and other community and school related activities. He got very lucky and will now be staying at the greek housing for his 2nd year.

He looked into several frats at the start of the year and then did some research. He is a rather very consertive kid with a strong military focused mind. If your going to do this I rec. doing your own research and make sure the frat is good for you and them.

Engage your parents and tell all. They will have some good questions that you should answer, remember their insight is important. The last thing is cost, they are not free and all are different. Work hard over the summer and save your money, as a parent I would not fund a dime. I have no problem paying for his education, the frat is an extra that has to come from his pocket.

Thank you! I’m a girl though haha, so I’d be rushing a sorority. Any other opinions of it?

Sorry about that… I do have one more opinion. My youngest child is a girl stay away from the boys and the frats!! Enjoy UCONN, it’s a very nice school.
