What's the ideal number of roommates for frosh year?

So I requested one roommate on the housing form and sort of regret it now. My worry is that I’ll have to be proactive to find parties, especially if my roommate is a nondrinker (which, considering I marked myself as a 3 social-wise, is a possibility). Any experiences with a partier/non-partier room dynamic?

There’s a lot of randomness to the system as well, but I think you’re right Mustafah - your roommate probably will not be a rager.

But most (if not all?) of the dorms with doubles have hallways and tend to be very social (Thayer particularly). And you’ll have no problem meeting freshmen who want to go to parties, or finding parties to go to - it’ll just mean spending a bit more time making phone calls + getting out of your room.

i don’t think anything less than a triple exists anymore, unless you have extenuating circumstances. freshman housing is generally overcapacity. my freshman year room was a quad but this year it’s a quint, which seems inhumane since it wasn’t exactly spacious with 4 people.

Aren’t Thayer + Stoughton/Hollis still all doubles?

dude, thayer sucks (public bathrooms). and i still don’t know where stoughton/hollis is. then again, i lived in wigglesworth, which sounds like it came straight from harry potter.

I applied for 4 suite-mates: Will this mean they will all be my roommates or as I thought at the time , there will be rooms connecting to a central living area. Also does anyone have a link to the list of the dorms in the yard and photos of the rooms?

Thirsty- They may give you 2 connected rooms each w/ two beds, or 3 rooms, where you work out who sleeps where, etc. There are so many different configurations in each dorm and often, you don’t even get the number of roommates you requested. So, no reason to be concerned now.

Just be ready for the tiniest rooms, (space for only a bed or a set of bunkbeds, a 2 foot aisle, and desk and chest, possibly only a 16" wide closet .) Then, if you get lucky and get a reasonable sized room you can celebrate!

@thirstylemonade: This is a pretty good map and it has some decent pictures of the dorms, too …Although, a lot of them are pretty messy :).

Thayer is fine. Dorms with public bathrooms give you lots of opportunity to meet more people and make friends.
