I am excited to have been accepted to the class of 2010 and is currently filling out the Housing and College Affiliation Form.

On the form they ask you to indicate your preference for a room that is quiet/serious or a lively social center by choosing a number between 1 and 5, with 1 being the most quiet and 5 being the most social.

I would love to hear from current Yalies about the number they chose and how their freshmen roommates were.

I am also wondering what is Yale's standard for quiet/serious and lively/social. Are the students generally quiet or generally lively? How frequent are parties in general?

By the way, I am considering 2 or 3.

Thank you very much in advance for any help :).

When I filled out the form a couple years ago, they didn't have the range of 1-5, and instead had 3 options i.e. are you very messy, somewhat messy, or clean? At least I think so...it's hard to remember. Anyway, I made the marks for a somewhat messy and quiet room, and wound up in the noisiest and most boisterous roommates in the entryway. I think the desire to create 'diversified' suites (with people representing multiple races, locations, and nationalities) than those forms.

I guess it depends on what your dean decides is the best way to prioritize things. Be honest with your preferences, and don't feel obliged to put a 3 if you're a party animal, or worry about being stuck with an anti-social weirdo if you choose an option that notes a preference for a more peaceful atmosphere.

Be honest...but don't count it being anything more than the mixing pot which it would be without the forms.

mel- I wouldn't count on it (though I loved TD when they took us around on residential college tours on BDD!)
I'm thinking of putting 3 down- I can't figure out whether I would end up doing most of my work in my room on in the library or something... so either way its a happy medium

lol I checked sloppy but I checked roommate who's neat. I'll keep everything clean except my room, and only if that's a single. I visited a suite during BDD with this really messy common room and I just couldn't stand it!

By the way, I put 4 applying to the whole suite, not my room...I didn't make a distinction, hmm.

BE HONEST. most important on the housing forms is to tell the truth. Your Dean will use these to try to place you in rooms, and if you put that you're a 2 or 3 when you're really a 1, don't be surprised if you end up with someone who might party/be loud/be messy/whatever else that form says (it's been a while, so i forget).

conversely, if you're looking to do some partying/being loud/messy/whatever, don't be afraid to put a 5 or say you like to party and go out. you don't want to end up with people who are going to have a problem with that.

that being said, it's all kind of random. some rooms really gel, and others dont. there's some conflict, but i find it tends to be with girls.

I circled 4 and 5... I like to go out a bunch but I just wanted to make sure that I didn't get put with future dubya who would just do coke all the time and sell my clothes for crack money.
