Does anyone know how the applicant pool for 2014 will be like in terms of population, competitiveness etc. etc?

Congrats to all 2013'ers that got accepted, any advice for your future-potential-fellow-underclassmen?

Even tougher than 2013...

pretty grim my friend

and im intl, going for financial aid

awwwww
:(

not good (10 char)

OMG. i was planning to go to stanford. but us 2016 applicants are effectively doomed.

2016???

you havent hit puberty!

At least you are starting early. Learn everything you can.

Wait, that means you are 10??? Wow.

lol, no that means he's like 14-5ish (he graduates in HS class of 2012)

START WRITING YOUR ESSAYS IN THE SUMMER! TAKE TIME TO MAKE THEM PERFECT, PASSIONATE, AND PERSONAL!!!
YOU HAVE HOPE!
DO NOT RUN AWAY FROM STANFORD.
IF YOU WANT IT, WORK FOR IT.

That is all.

I thought the competitiveness of the applicant pool was supposed to go down after this year?

it will, but it's only a slight dip... don't expect rampant increases in acceptances.

Uh, on stanford's website. They're predicting an overall acceptance rate of less than 9%. So one can only imagine that it will go downhill from there :l

<9% ---> that's harsh.

good lord :(

Ostonzi-Do yourself a favor and don't worry about college until at least you're a junior.

I think that we're a slightly smaller class...but that shouldn't affect the low acceptance rates all that much...

You really should look at the Class of 2012 results to get an idea of how 2014 will be.

In other words, not great, but better than this year.

And Manza is right:

Write your essays immediately after they come out. It's ok if they're bad. It's ok if you have writer's block.

Take the time to make them good.

How does the recession play a part in admissions this year?

I know that at "need-aware" schools people not applying for finaid are at a slight advantage, but at Stanford, a need-blind school, this is not true, right?

Wow. Sub 9% would be amazing. Times sure have changed. When I was a freshman, I remember we had one of the lowest admit rates in a decade or so - it was 15.5%. Wow.

Study like hell for SATs and SAT IIs. If there is one thing I would change it is that. I did study, but after seeing CCers with perfect scores and better ECs get rejected SCEA, I think I could have done more.
