Whats the point of AP credits? (Or.. how does credits work)

I might be really stupid... but if I get a 5 in BC Calc... whats the point of getting credit for it during freshmen year at some college and jumping to Multivariable calc? Wouldn't it be better/easier for me to pull an A in Calc 1 and Calc 2 and get A's in those? OR is me getting a 5 on AB and BC usually give me credits towards graduation at the college that does grant AP credit.

A 5 in Calc BC will get you credit for the first two calculus courses in college. You don’t get a grade but you get the number of total hours, for example 8 if each applicable college course is 4 hours per semester, and that counts towards the total number of hours you need to graduate and any needed math or gen ed requirements in college. In other words, you enter college already having those 8 college credit hours. If you choose to actually take the first year college courses you give up the AP credit.
