What's the point of IGETC if no colleges are accepting lower division transfers in your area? Do you need to complete IGETC + Lower division courses to transfer to a 4 year? Or just lower division courses?

Since no one replies to my posts. I shall bump this thread!

Not sure if I understand your question completely, but I’ll try to answer it. For the more course-heavy majors (Biology and such), IGETC is generally not required. If it was required, it would take students in those majors at least 4+ years to finish, thus for that reason, they are generally exempt from IGETC. Speak to a counselor at your CC to make sure though.

For business majors and such, IGETC is almost always required.

Either way, I think IGETC is a complete waste of time. I followed it for my first quarter at CC, but then realized how ridiculous it was. So I decided to transfer out of state, because it is generally a lot easier (and didn’t need any of that IGETC crap).

I’ve been following the IGETC program for a year now because I didn’t know what I wanted to major in. Now I’ve decided to major in Engineering. I plan to see my counselor next week, and hopefully I can transfer to a four year soon. My plan was to transfer in the spring of 2013, but CSU’s are not accepting admissions next spring.

I guess I’m going to be waiting around until next fall to START my major.
