Everything I’ve read online has been information posted on forums and varies greatly. Some posters say that it’s about 30%, others say 50%, and some go as far to say 70%. Also, those forums all ended up becoming arguments about racism and totally deviated from the original question- how Asian IS UBC really? I’ve heard that it’s very Asian, and although I don’t have a problem with that, it’s just something I’m curious about. I’ve heard of people not wanting to go to UCLA or UBC just because those schools are “too Asian”, and while I understand that different people have different comfort levels, I can’t help but find that kind of racially insensitive and ridiculous. Nonetheless, I would like to know out of curiosity.

It probably looks more ‘Asian’ than it actually is, especially if you are not used to walking around in a city with a lot of Asian people (so it would stand out to you more and lead to overestimations). It depends in part on major. The business school is about 60% undergraduates of Asian background and I would venture a guess that engineering and sciences are similar, and arts less so.

lol jk, that’s just a joke. I honestly have no idea, I just wanted to stick that joke in. :p

bump---- I wish there was a UBC student on this site! I have so many questions!

There are a lot of Asian students at UBC, now I cant really give you an exact percentage because, frankly I dont know, but based on what I have observed I’d say its around 40-45%. Its not too bad though because it is a fairly big school (both in terms of land size and student population) so finding friends (if you for some reason dont like to hang out with asians) wont be hard. If you live on rez, there is a great balance between asians and non-asians, for instance, my floor is around 30% asian.
