What's the Zoom interview like?

I’m thinking about applying as an external transfer student for Tisch (acting) and submitting the digital submission/partaking in the artistic review through Zoom rather than auditioning in person.
I actually applied to NYU two years ago as a freshman and was accepted, but opted not to attend as it wasn’t in my major of choice. Now that I’m reapplying and have the chance to actually apply for Tisch without going all the way to New York I’m invested.

However, I’ve never done an interview/audition over the internet and I don’t know anything about Zoom. I would love to hear from other applicants who have either done the auditions and artistic review over Zoom or applicants who are planning to go this route.

Any advice appreciated.

Hoping to hear from anyone who has any insight on the interview process. Obviously it wouldn’t be ethical to share everything, but I figured the NYU forum would be able to at least comment on the process.

i applied for musical theatre and the only acting audition was through zoom! basically you will get an email after you submit your slideroom application to sign up for a zoom account and select a time/date for your audition. on the day of, you’re put into a room with however many people signed up for your time slot (for me, it was about 5-6 other people from all over the world) and someone will come in and talk to you and explain what’s going to happen, which is—they’ll split you up into separate “rooms” and you’ll watch a video that is essentially an intro to tisch drama/what it’s all about/etc. in your room, all you have is yourself lol it’s just a webcam and you wait for the person who will be assessing you to enter the “room” via webcam. they go by time zone. i’m on the west coast, so i was last. i remember there were people who auditioned during my timeslot from kansas, thailand, and new york (we introduced ourselves before the woman came in to explain what was going to happen.) it took about three hours until the person who was assessing me came into my “room” and it was super chill. all i did was introduce myself and then perform my two monologues. after, he asked me a bunch of questions like which studio i would prefer, what my dream role is, what types of books i like to read, random stuff like that! and then it was over!

@swagmastero420 Awesome that’s about what I was expecting, appreciate it! I’m west coast too lol so it sounds like I’ll be one of the last. What do you while you’re waiting for someone to join your chat?

honestly i did homework and danced around my room lol

you just have to stay by your computer
