at this website students write reviews of their experiences of Pton and some are really bad. Are these views common or true? They're getting me kind of nervous since i'm really thinking of applying to Pton ED.

i wouldn't sweat it. look at the sidebar comparing princeton (B-) to its peer schools (harvard C+, yale B, stanford B-, MIT B-).

remember, princeton has the highest freshman retention rate, second-highest graduation rate, and highest alumni giving rate among all national universities. people seem to like the place.

Interesting that those in philosophy rated Pton social life (D-) in spite of the fact that they were in one of the best undergraduate philosophy programs offered. Maybe they thought about and analized their social life too much. :)

We don't even have animal studies, business, crime, pre-law/med departments.

yeah, that website should be taken with a grain of salt. seems to me (from the times/schools I've visited) that it is primarily an outlet for students who want to get some kind of grudge out of their system. i mean there are some not so debbie downer ones too, but the reviewing students seem to be quite critical.

and perhaps thats just bc the happy ones didnt feel any need to sit down and express their satisfaction in a grading-scale type of system.

Has Alumother posted there yet? She could raise P'ton's GPA half a point all by herself!

If you hate it at Princeton you can basically transfer anwhere in the world, so if it sucks then you can just leave... you know. I've read the opposite. everyone is going to princeton. class of 2010 will rule in parties AND social life.

thanks for the encouragement guys, i really hope the people on that website are just the cranky one every school is bound to have no matter how great it is.

is Alumother out there to give any insight?

When I visited Princeton, everyone was telling me that I'd hate it, that it was elitist and not diverse. I visited with an open mind and absolutely fell in love with the place. If you're applying ED, I'd seriously consider visiting first, but it truly does have an incredible atmosphere.

My story is similar to iv4me. I thought that it would be elitist and preppy/snobby, but I felt like I fit in the most there....a random student offered to lead me (not just point me in the direction) towards Frist! I absolutely loved it and I will definitely be applying ED come November.

If you are unsure, a visit is definitely the way to go.

OK, Alumother here. I am a nearly-50 year old woman who spends most of her life behind a desk in Silicon Valley and the rest of her life behind a desk in Shanghai, China....I would never presume to go and post pretending to be a current student just to get ratings up.

However, AluD told me that the last month of her freshman year at Princeton, May 2006, was the most fun month of her whole life. And she had finals....and BTW did extremely well. (says the proud mother) So, from my one anecdotal datapoint? Yes, the kids at Princeton love it, the social life is truly fun and much more open than the prevalent eating club myth would suggest. And you can perform well academically and still burn the proverbial candle. At both proverbial ends.

BTW, JTC007 - good luck buddy. Hope you don't mind the buddy greeting, it's my generic address for teenage boys...

Where are these reviews?

My d has found the students extremely friendly and gregarious. The eating clubs and residential colleges immediately draw you into a "scene" that helps you get to know a huge number of students almost as soon as you arrive on campus. This is especially true if you get involved in an extracurricular group. She has had friends visiting from other Ivies who were amazed at the number of students who greeted her as she walked around campus. At their schools, small groups and room parties were the norm, and they found it much harder to get to know anyone beyond their own dorm.

somehow the link in my OP disappeared??? they are at the website studentsreview dotcom. to find them just search for princeton at the top of the main page and it'll come up.

That is a naughty reference to a CC competitor!
