tote bag. bad for my back, i know. my left shoulder is way more tense than my right. i may have to get myself a real backpack this year.
armando-- i'm a public school girl too, and i don't see very many string bags.

Tote bag. It's bad I know. But every single 2 strap or messenger bag I've ever gotten (Jansport, Adidas, LL Bean etc) has broken with in a month or two.. My tote's haven't broke yet. Plus we have lockers I just have to carry it to my 9th period class, then to my car, then in the house, and then from my house, to my car, to my locker. It's amazing how much stuff I manage to cram in it though haha

Two strap Jansport. Woot.

I have a two strap LL Bean backpack; those things last forever. I only use it to carry my books to and from school, though...other than that I leave my books in my locker and take the ones I need from class to class. Not many people carry backpacks during school.

I second deenierah: I got to a public school and not one person in my school uses a string backpack, unless it's for their sports stuff (like practice clothes and shoes). I don't understand how anyone could fit all their books in that.

All the little 8th graders that think they're cool carry around huge Vera Bradley body bags. They're oblivious to the fact that everyone despises them and their stupid totes.

A RISD tote bag (they were all the rage at Summer@Brown)

They're the best! Stylish (duh, they're a design school), HUGE, roomy, great thick straps, and durable. I love it!

a regular two-strapped backpack by Eastpak

two bags daily:
my regular jansport for books and such
my messenger bag for my laptop

i'm using none of the above. one of those underarmour one strap bags that go from shoulder to hip, but hang on your back like a two-strapper would. it's a nice inbetween, so my bag's not "all i care about are my studies" nor "books? i dont have many of those" nor "i ain't puttin it on me unless it got some serious beauty (or designer name)"

i use the nike string back for sports. it's not really practical for school.

Freshman: LLBean 2strap with initials
Sophomore: tote bag
Junior: AE messenger bag

Wow! You guys live in some very very different communities lol.

I own a 2 strap North Face backpack.

Yeah... I go to a public school, and I have NEVER seen anyone use a string bag instead of a (two strap) backpack.
North Face backpacks are all the rage here, but I have my trusty navy blue LL Bean two strap backpack (wow, that's a mouthful) that I've owned since 8th grade.
Some people use messenger bags/tote bags, but I don't think that anyone really cares whether you use a two strap or a one strap. Someone using a string bag might get ridiculed, though. We only use them for sports equipment (uniforms, running outfits, sneakers, etc).

2 strap blue eastport.

american eagle tote bag or sometimes i just carry my books if i only have a couple for one class

My trusty navy blue 2 strap Jansport I've used since 6th grade. It's got one of those funny bottoms (haha, funny bottoms) that's extra tough.

Those string bags are popular here, but mostly in the middle schools. No one really has any name brands, like North Face. Public school, btw.

some random bag with 400 different fabrics from target... and i have a backup which is a bag from lafayette college.. its grey with a rope-like strap.. both are tote bags.

Tote! (10char)

Is it really common to carry a backpack to class? My school doesn't allow it for whatever reason, so I've never really heard of such a thing. Of course, my school is small and my locker is never more than a 1 minute walk from wherever I need to go. That's why I use the $8 Wal-Mart kind.

They're just not practical for anything except sports. They're too small for any of us to use here.

JBVirtuoso, our school is HUGE so we pretty much have to have something to use when we can't get to our lockers.

I get my locker tomorrow! :) I'm so excited.

I use a two strap LL Bean backpack. I've had since about 8th grade and it still works perfectly :). A lot of people at my school use messenger bags, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone using a string bag for anything besides sports.
