What's your dream school?

Hey guys! What is your dream college? List a couple and feel free to tell why they're perfect for you!

Duke University.

This is my dream school because it perfectly balances outstanding academics with the typical college experience. Duke is one of the few schools that could manage to be one of the top schools in the nation and have a #1 ranked basketball team. Not only do the students study hard, but they also have unmatched pride for their school which can be observed at any basketball game. Not to mention the campus is beautiful, and North Carolina is a wonderful place to live. You get all four seasons, yet you don’t have to deal with harsh winters. The students are also motivated and working to make something of themselves. It has been my dream for a while now.

Unfortunately, I applied ED and was rejected. I have never been as heart broken as I was reading that letter. They’ll be seeing my name in their applicant pool again though, but next time it will be as a graduate student.

CLM2017 Thanks for replying. I’m really sorry you didn’t get accepted into Duke but hold your head up. It’s all going to work out.

The University of Michigan. It’s incredible! The campus is completely gorgeous(look up “Michigan law quad” on google if you don’t believe me), they have top 20 programs in nearly every major (including mine: English). They have fully qualified professors, the brightest students, and a really diverse student body (which is important to students going into English because intellectual discussion and different opinions from students with different backgrounds teaches so much). They have the most interesting classes I’ve seen! Like an entire course on the Salem Witch Trials, courses in Greek mythology, psychology of language and a whole bunch of creative writing courses. It’s one of less than 20 schools that offer a major in Egyptology, which I’m a total nerd over and would love to take elective classes regarding. Beyond academics, there are so many things to do around campus! They have 10 on campus libraries, a pretty great football team, one of the best theatre programs ever where you can see awesome plays (like university of Michigan’s student written and directed play “A Very Potter Musical” you can watch on YouTube.) and a great culture of intellectual discussion. Did I mention they have a squirrel feeding club?! And the squirrels there are gigantic! Like cat sized gigantic and they’ll eat out of your hand! My dad went there and absolutely loved it and I’m completely obsessed! When I visited the campus for the first time, I fell in love. I felt instantly at home there and it’s been my ultimate goal to be accepted ever since! Go Blue!

Oh, CLM2017! Duke sounds lovely! As a second time University of Michigan hopeful, I encourage you to keep on applying! You never know until you try, right? I was deferred from U of M as a senior in high school and worked hard, joined extra curriculars, and got a 4.0 in my freshman year. Now I’m applying again and I have high hopes! Hopefully, I’ll be lucky enough to brave those harsh winters this time next year! Good luck with Duke!

I want to go to an LAC, but I’m still doing college visits so I’m not sure which one. I narrowed it down to LACs because I love the concept of living in a college bubble. I want all my classes taught by profs with no TAs and no classes with more than 40 students. I want the opportunity to do research in the summers with my profs. I want to live with the people I go to school with and not somewhere miles from classes. I think a lot of the fun and learning happens outside of class and a residential college is the best way to achieve the best of college.

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA… It has the best academics in the state of florida in my opinion and not focusing on the sugar bowl has a great athletic program!!! Huge campus and I just love that school!!! I’m a HS senior and am hoping to get in, im beyond nervous for Feb. 8 which is decision day!!!

Georgetown is my dream school. It has the most amazing academics, and it’s the place where everyone who loves politics wants to go. Plus, it’s in DC, but with a more secluded, non-urban campus.

I’m still a junior, so I have a few dream schools.
My Ivy League dream school: Brown
My LAC dream school: Amherst
My Women’s college dream school: Wellesley
My public university dream school: UC San Diego
My Top 50 national university dream school: University of Rochester

All of these have amazing opportunities in the major I’m deadset on.

Cornell and Stanford

University of Michigan
Duke
Stanford
Wharton

University of Phoenix, they must be the most prestigious university in America! I see them on TV every day!

When I was in the ninth grade, I went to UCLA for some event and fell in love. Since then, I have detached myself and have seven “dream” schools: I just want to get into one! Duke, Northwestern, Penn, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC. They are all top academic universities, in or near urban areas, with top athletic programs.

University of Notre Dame

This school is perfect for me because it offers great academics (including Forbes’ #1 undergrad business program), a very close-knit student body, an absolutely gorgeous campus (I especially love the Basilica and the main library), and of course the nation’s top football team (I’m a huge fan). I also like how there is no Greek scene (dorm/house parties are the name of the game), and the food is pretty good too.

Notre Dame is also located 50 minutes from my house, which means that it’s close but not too close.

After visiting Georgetown this past summer, I fell in love with the school. Georgetown’s campus is beautiful, and I really loved that although it has a city location, it feels isolated. Also, DC is a great city! I loved visiting the different monuments/museums. There’s so much to do, and many great internship opportunities, especially for journalism. My favorite quality of Georgetown though is their emphasis on global awareness and enrichment. They have such good language departments, and I’d love to learn Portuguese and better my Spanish. I hope to transfer in after one or two years!

WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY.

It actually took me quite a while to realize this was the case. After applying Early Action Princeton and getting deferred, I, like flips4ever, realized I was meant for a LAC. So I am now awaiting a response from Wes for Early Decision II.

Wes has everything a prestigious LAC should have, small class sizes, renowned academics, amazing opportunities (undergrad lab research, etc.), beautiful campus. But what I really love about it is something that cannot be quantified; the student body. When I visited and interviewed, and in all the research I’ve done, students consistently said the same thing: The best thing about Wes is the people, they are smart, diverse, interesting, and completely themselves. I don’t know, college is above all about the academics, but for me, the people (students and professors) are just as important.

Just a little over a month till I hear back from this amazing place…

UCSB

I applied as a transfer student from a CC. It’s the only school that has the major I want.

Vanderbilt University is my dream school. CLM2017, I strongly recommend looking into it (or anyone else for that matter). The campus is beautiful, the people are friendly, Nashville is amazing, and the academics are top notch. Anchor down!

When I was a child, it was Berkeley.
When I applied, it was the same.
When I got in, it was the same.
When I attended, it was the same.
When it was tougher/lonelier than I expected, it was the same.
And when I graduated, I felt no regrets.
