My favorite ivy is Penn, which is where I will be next fall (so excited!). My impression when I applied early decision was that it is a school that is incredible across the board, it is the perfect urban environment for me, I love the spirit of the school and its tradition of giving to the Philadelphia community, and the environment seemed very friendly and diverse. Columbia was second (the other one I visited), it too is an incredible all around school, and I really like the campus and NYC. Princeton was third on the list. From what I read seemed like it would be a good environment for me. It seemed a little snobby though. I got some mailings from Yale and heard a lot about the school, but it didn’t really speak to me. I was going to apply to Cornell because I heard excellent things about the science programs, but I knew I wanted a more urban environment. I did not plan to apply to Harvard, Brown, or Dartmouth. Dartmouth seemed too remote, and I didn’t really think it fit me and I did not apply to Brown for similar reasons. I might have applied to Harvard, but I really did not get much of a vibe from what I heard, and I already had enough schools I was applying to.

Brown.
I don’t have anywhere near the stats and won’t apply to any Ivies, but Brown just strikes me as a place for really creative, fun, and maybe liberal people. Like I hope I am. =)

Coulmbia - Engineering I heard was rather good, but banking more on the reputation (especially for Industrial engineers with a finance & economic modelling focus).
Excellent for my grad school plans (Financial engineering, in the heart of the action!)

Cornell - Great engineering, very good setting. heard it was extremely competitive. Whats this I hear about suicide? never heard about that before.

I find Harvard too…puffy.

YALE.

pros: residential colleges, english department, languages are amazing, nation’s oldest literary mag, study abroad programs, lovely campus, strong vocal program (love), school spirit is strong, perfect size for me

cons: new haven isn’t my favorite city in the world, expensive, weather kinda sucks (although i’m used to it)

pros far outweigh the cons, but it may come down to money.

swedish ivy and english ivy are pretty nice.

(every one of these threads gets a few postings of types of ivy, in case no one reads the million other threads about this)
