The ivies

We all love Yale. Yale is the best Ivy to me, forget Harvard and Princeton.
Penn is even better than Harvard and Princeton, but NOT YALE

OK TO THE QUESTION!!!

All the Ivies have a unique characteristic to them. Spill out what you think is the unique THING about each Ivy. You do not have to know everything. Maybe you know Yale but not Columbia or Cornell. You know a little of Penn and nothing else.
Holler it out. YALE IS THE BEST.

Yale: Leaders and persons who are strong willed. They know where want to go and will end up there. They show promise and they are not afraid of giving that promise to anyone and helping that person.

Harvard: Someone who wants to be the top of what he wants to do. Inclined toward people who will spread their name to the ends of the world.

I will throw the rest out there when I hear good comments and contributions from all of you!
ELIHU YALE!!

this is a bit ridiculous.

Thanks for your contribution. Now we will hear from others

My 2 cents...Penn isn't really better than Harvard and Princeton, imo.

This is VERY ridiculous.

Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are all great schools, and each has its own respective qualities. Claiming that one is better than the other is, IMO, an absurdity.

Harvard-on-the-Hudson pwns ALL.

(aka, Hudson Valley Community College)

I think this can be an interesting exercise. We live far from New England, and this may sound ridiculous to those of you who grew up around the ivies, but our family, and most of the kids growing up around here don't have a clue about them. Until my daughter started her college search as a junior, we had no idea how many there are, what their names are, and what the stereotypes are.

My daughter finally had coffee with an H grad around the holidays during her junior year. Her first question was about summing up each ivy in just a few sentences. She wanted the bottom line stereotypes, how H students perceive students at other ivies, how grads from each ivy are perceived in the job market or grad school app pool, and so on.

Of course, to play this game, you must set aside the premise that no one descriptor could possibly apply to all, or even most students, but you would be surprised how quickly this student came up with generalizations that have held up pretty well as my D has started her life at Y and met students from around the league. She's an athlete, so she visits the other schools, and meets and gets to know other students.

OP, not a silly question at all, and the answers (opinions?) may help applicants from far away to know how the ivies are characterized. Also, it's interesting to know how people in the general population percieve graduates from each school. This is pretty irrelevant in our part of the world, but may have subtle or overt implications for students considering staying in the eastern US after graduation.

I don't know about the other ivies but I LOVE YALE it's the best, i agree.

Lovely one riverrunner. We seek to bring the people who want to know about each Ivy League school. I did not say that any is better than any (but Yale is the best).
If you look closely, I think you will be able to tell by my tone that I am very much into Yale and nobody else. You will also be able to see that each Ivy has its different characteristic.
But no, you see a few words and jump to say stuff that is not relevant. The Ivies would slap you if you told them that none is better than the other. Are you joking!

yale is really not better than harvard...
maybe, cuz u stand no chance at harvard and had to conform with yale..

Yale is clearly the best institution in the universe. Heck, it is probably the best institution in the universe.

And obviously one liner stereotypical over-generalizations about colleges are true and helpful to applicants. We should discuss them because they are all true.

The secret societies intrigue me so much. Skull and bones.

Yes they do. I just cannot grasp something about them; why were they made, how do the members feel, how secret are those secrets?
Yale is the one place where you will get a great undergrad teaching and meet THE best people on the universe.
I cannot say the same for Harvard. The school has name, yes. But that name has done nothing for it. Many people will prefer to step into Yale than Harvard.
So CHANFEST, it is sad that you think I will not get into Harvard so Yale was my second choice. Yale was my first choice because I know what is best for me, and what is best IN THE UNIVERSE! Deal with it, Yale has the best professors. Heck, the History Channel gets more Yale professors and JUST a few Harvard professors.
Let us not get into that. I cold start a new thread on which school is better. Yale will win, and I said so!

^^

Of course you are correct. I never doubted you. In fact, you should make that thread. It's not like anyone has ever made a Harvard vs. Yale thread before. Plus, what a few people say on College Confidential is obviously true. Yale is the best place in the universe. Actually Yale is the only place to be in the universe. If you don't go to Yale, you might as well not go to college.

I think this kid is insane.

Hey, kids, cut the vituperative sarcasm. We all know that Yale is made out of gold and was founded by God, but we also know that there are other schools out there that may be plated in gold, or that were founded by a lesser deity. No need to get snippy.

^^

HAHAHAH! Truth.

The future leaders of the world go to yale...

i like dartmouth. it has the coolest name.
