3.86 Tulane University want to go to Cornell--biomedical engineering

4.0 at Emory University (Part of Emory Scholars Program) Hoping to transfer to either Yale (waitlisted RD in May 2004), Columbia, or Harvard.

4.0 at a CCC; philosophy/pre-med major.

haha! just got my grades back: 4.0 baby!

wow alot of you guys from community colleges have high gpa's even some around 3.8-4.0 and its very impressive. Do you guys expect to have better GPA better when you go to a university? or does it stay the same or decrease?

I would imagine many GPA's will hold or go slighly down...at least that is the general rule simply because university coursework is supposedly more rigorous.

a big factor as well is courseload. i'm sure some of these 4.0's are coming from 12-14 credit hour schedules. i'm sure universities would like to see rigorous schedules that challenge the students.

i took 14 credits. But i would consider my classes to be normal? Correct me if i'm wrong.... :(

I took

Intro Psych
Writing
Gen Bio
Gen Chem
Gen Chem lab.

I took calculus I but had to withdraw because of a really crappy professor.

How is a 4.0 from a CC compared to like a 3.7 from a top 50 university, from an admissions standpoint?

well according to stanford, for example, they state that they take into account the difficulty of the school you are tranferring from in their admissions process. so a 4.0 in a CC would not be as impressive as from a top-tier school, i would think. exactly how much more advantageous the latter position is i dunno, we dont know the details of the process after all, and its a partially subjective procedure.

CE
3.75 @ UCSD freshman (only 4 classes so far);
total units: 65, including first qtr (17);
2nd qtr units: 18;
thinking about applying to UCLA and UCB next year;
i hear uc to uc transfer is pretty tough tho;

i have 2 q's:
1. what do u think my chances are to get into either Cal or UCLA? and
2. what % of CC and UC transfers do these schools admit? esp interested for UCB

thx =)

o yea, i'm shooting for a 3.75 - 3.85 cumulative by the end of next year.

well i dont know about the rest of "the 4.0's," but the i've carried 16-18 credits for each of the three semesters i've been in college, including 7 honors courses. i think that qualifies as rigorous.

Fall 2004 Transfer Student Profile for Cal:
Average college GPA
(middle 50% of students on a 4.0 scale) 3.56 - 3.91

how is that possible!?!
is it due to the # of CCC transfers they admit?
(not meant to lower any of the CCC 4.oers accomplishments) =0

I had a 3.62 this semester, and shooting for a 4.0 next semester. Cumulative 3.8 (hopefully)...is that good enough for NYU?

3.63 @ Lynchburg College (freshman)
currently 15 credits and 6 from dual enrollment during hs @ comm. college= 21 total credits. Taking 18 credits next semester and shooting for 3.8.
poss. applying next year to Maryland and American (not a definite decision yet)

DO u guys think a 3.71 is a good GPA for ChemE at UCB and UCLA?

My Stats
Current GPA: 3.08 ( Knowing how I am, it will be a 3.54 by the end of the semester!)
Psych/Sociology major (Depending on which College I transfer to, I'll major in one and minor in the other.)
Taking 16 units ( 12 UC Transferrable) at a CCC. I volunteer at the Art museum and I'm looking to get involved with the Junior League. I wanted to take another class but my counselor felt that doing so wouldn't be in my best interest. Looking at the future, I know that I'll be working day and night to be sucessful this semester.

15.5 Semester Units Completed. ( That means that I have to take a transferrable course this summer....or two if I'm not working.....to have the units necessary to transfer in Fall '06 as I desire to.)

I'm looking at UCR, UCSB,UCM, CS Fullerton, and CS San Bernardino at this time. I'm sure about being accepted to everywhere on the above list except for UCSB.

I will apply to my reach/stretch schools: UCLA and UCSD.

I'm a first semester sophmore in UW-Madison, and I got a 2.9. My first sem was horrible, got a 2.0 with 14 cr and my second sem was 3.647, made the deans list.
Applying to georgetown and tufts, got the backing of the dean of students office.

whispers
2.5.
