What's Your GPA?

3.64 GPA from Tulane, including a "satisfactory" grade (medical reason)

Good enough for brown, yale, oberlin, vassar, swarthmore, tufts, upenn, pomona, WashU in St. Louis?

this thread reminds me of a phallic size comparsion thread on sexuality forum, except this one participated by both guy and girls.

i have 4.0 from an all engineering physics, chem, bio, calculus course plan.

Well I'm screwed now. I just bombed my chem midterm!!!!! It was twice as hard as oru last test, i wasn't prepared and ran out of time :(

is a 3.71 GPA somewhat of a decent GPA for UCB or UCLA as a chemical engineering major? i want to transfer to either one of these schools but am afraid if my GPA is low. i completed all of the requirements for UCB and am missing 2 classes for UCLA. do i have a chance?

blackdream: excecpt here we're expressing our insecurity, not our cockiness

haha, pun intended eh?

personally i don't like this GPA comparsion thing. if you get higher GPA i get [urinate?can't believe it's censored]ed, if i got higher you get [urinate?can't believe it's censored]ed. it's easy to start fight from this kinda thread.

actually, nothing to be insecure over. even if you have high GPA, you don't worry a bit less.

we're wondering if our GPA's are good enough, not bragging about them. read the thread before bashing it. Use your eyes, you know, those things in front of your non-existent brain

Then why did you post this?

And why did you use the additional qualifiers instead of posting your total GPA?
I wonder why...

Though your use of abstruse rhetoric might seem prima facie impressive, the fact that you use words incorrectly belies the intelligence you seek to exude; in fact, it makes you look worse.

3.93 at Holy Cross. Brown-bound (hmm, that's fun to say).

As hopeful transfers, I think we're just looking for some reassurance, as [generally] we're incredibly discouraged by the prospect of remaining where we are (to put it lightly...). Sharing our GPAs is expected; it's anxiety, just let it be expressed. Otherwise we're going to explode.

Wheeeeeeee, double post!

flip flop what are your other stats? Were you waitlisted last year? You sound familiar. I am hopefully Brown bound :(

Tell admin that I wish to delete it.

As I said, if it's too high you don't like it, if it's too low I don't like it.

And no, intellence does not have to do with grammar. I can tell you right now that I have a lot of grammatical mistakes in this one, but I can write well if I put my heart into it (in fact I write very well) and I am not an English major.

Look, I wanna be nice to everyone. I know how you feel. I am not here to brag or anything, I wish I could take it off. I was merely saying that a GPA thread seems like an easy place to start a fight, and puff, I got someone begin to do insult already.

Where did I claim that?

Just use words correctly if you are going to use abstruse rhetoric.

I was merely saying that a GPA thread seems like an easy place to start a fight, and puff, I got someone begin to do insult already.
Yet the insult had nothing to do with GPAs.

look my friend, I don't really take proud in knowing all those sophiscated words due to cultural reason.

and i don't argue for sake of the argument, you win ok? my grammar sucks and I can't understand your perfect English because i am somehow worse than you, you win.

i don't understand a word you typed, no understanding no worries.
i am a science person, i don't do language art stuff alright?

you don't tell something to someone who will not believe it anyway.

case closed.

Wow that was pretty pitiful. I hope english is your second language, because if not, you just undermined any credibility that you had. Go use a dictionary.
Go use a dictionary.
Precisely.

I do not mind it if posters use abstruse rhetoric, but I just wish they would use words properly.

3.718 at Indiana University. (HAH). I'm going to UIUC next year though. All they need are my spring grades and then they'll give me the decision. So, I have decided I am going there next year for sure!

So inability to write properly on a forum somehow "undermines" my crediblity? Do you think a person who cannot speak English has no crediblity neither?

Well, you shouldn't below Gauss's law because he was of German descent (and thus maynot speak English very well), you shouldn't believe Einstein because he was a Jew, etc.

English is a language, a vehicle to convey one's thought. It shall not be used to create confusion, nor shall it be used as a basis to determine one's intelligence.

Remember those literacy tests used by the south to discourage African Americans from voting? By your logic, some of the African American cannot write very well, thus they shouldn't be voting because they can't?

All the universities that we are talking about, and hoping to transfer to, are there to raise future world leaders. If you truly want to be a leader, you must learn to tolerate other's errors, mistakes, or unfavorable traits.

Let me remind you all, I can choose to be more careful with machincal errors on my posting, but I rather prefer not to.

First, English IS my second language, and a language that I am not particularly proud of.

Second, becuase of the reason stated above, I need to proofread everything I wrote. My eyes, unlike yours, cannot catch errors automaticly.

I can understand you. A person who can barely speak English got straight As in Honors English writing class and 700 on SAT I? Pm me, and I will scan you my transcripts.

Last of all, I do not understand what grudge you have against me. I do not know you, and I merely added the specific courses I took to indicate that I am a science major. However, you "assumed" that science courses are more diffcult (a myth in your mind).

I hope you can change your attitude real quick, because wherever you will transfer to, you will see more people like me, who can barely speak English but beat you on EVERY other subject you take.

Let me give you an example. I used to be like you, laugh at anyone who cannot speak English as well as me. And one day, I laughed at one of my father's colleague.

Well, it turned out that this guy transfered into MIT, got over 20 bachelors degrees, 4 masters degree, and two Ph.Ds.

What an unproductive discussion.

Such an ambitious statement need not be refuted, as it is absurd without any supplement.

I was not correcting you in a demeaning manner, I was just annoyed at your using words with definitions that you do not know.

No, but since we are on a forum that emphasizes the use of English and since we are transferring to colleges and entering occupations that use English as a primary method of linguistic propagation, if you cannot use English properly, then the thoughts you wish to propound lack authority.
Well, you shouldn't below Gauss's law because he was of German descent (and thus maynot speak English very well
That is the logical fallacy of the false analogy.
you shouldn't believe Einstein because he was a Jew, etc.
Yet another false analogy, you are not considering the context of this discussion.
English is a language, a vehicle to convey one's thought.
Its scope is much larger than that.
It shall not be used to create confusion,
Then use it properly.
nor shall it be used as a basis to determine one's intelligence.
Once again, where did I make such a claim?
Remember those literacy tests used by the south to discourage African Americans from voting? By your logic, some of the African American cannot write very well, thus they shouldn't be voting because they can't?
You persistently profess that you are using logic, yet this is the third time you have committed a fallacy.
If you truly want to be a leader, you must learn to tolerate other's errors, mistakes, or unfavorable traits.
Is a true leader also not one who invokes criticism for the sake of perpetuating improvement? Letting individuals such as you remain in a complacent state by allowing them to use words improperly only exacerbates the problem, it does not fix it. Once again, my criticism was not used as a deriding mechanism, I am merely trying to help.
Let me remind you all, I can choose to be more careful with machincal errors on my posting, but I rather prefer not to.
Then, as in almost every scenario, you will not be taken seriously.

Since when was I being derisive?
What an unproductive discussion.
It is unproductive because you wish to remain in such a state; go buy a dictionary and perhaps you will learn something.

Edit: I am also annoyed at the fact that you make claims as to the absurdity of this thread, yet you perpetuate it by posting your own GPA. Even worse, you post a GPA that does not represent your course-work in its entirety; such an act portrays an insecure attitude on your part.

Oh come on, buddy. I wasn't saying that an inability to speak English inherently undermines one's credibility. What I WAS saying is that an inability to write one's OWN FIRST LANGUAGE does. But, as I asked, and you have so kindly revealed to us, English is indeed not your first language.

So go off on your tangent about how minorities have been oppressed because of language differences (and yes, they have, I'm not disagreeing with you) else where - somewhere where it applies!

Now can we please stop and actually talk about transferring/
