So I just got my 3rd quarter report card, and my sculpture teacher gave me a D!?! He said in the comments part "Attendance needs major improvement for a higher grade." Dude, I was sick and out of school for 3 weeks. I showed him and all my other teachers a hospital note!!! He even signed it!!! Grrr.... I got A's and B's in all my other classes, but a D in a stupid art class. We only had two sculpture projects the entire quarter, both of which I finished and handed in on my first day back at school (coincidentally, the last day of the quarter). They were really good projects! I even did the required write up on them! I am so angry right now, I can't wait till tomorrow so I can see him about this. He has no reason to give me less than a B in that class. The only problem is I have no idea where I put the signed doctor's note. AGHH!!! any suggestions as to what I should do if he won't change the grade? BTW I doubt the principal or anyone in administration would care. Thanks in advance for your help, everyone.

you can ask another one of your teachers if they still have the doctors note, or go back to the doctor to ask for the note. if that doesn't work, explain to the teacher that you DID do the projects, and just because you were sick, he can't lower your grade.

I guess I could go back to the doctor for a note... It's a pretty far drive though. I guess I'll have to if he doesn't believe me. None of the teachers have a copy of the note, it was just one that everyone signed. Ohh he'd better change it :(

maybe the doctors office could fax it?

if u live in CA atendance can't be used to lower or raise ur grade if the absence is excused, my mom is a teacher and she told me that. If u don't live in CA you could check ur ed code 4 ur state.

ugh, I despise idiotic teachers...

Get the doctor to fax you the note? If you don't have fax machine I'm sure your school does.

Approach the teacher with an air of puzzlement, not anger. Assume that he simply forgot about signing the note that your absence was due to illness. Teachers are human and make mistakes.

He can check this with your other teachers. If he doesn't, you can have the doctor's office fax a note to the school

I'm pretty sure it's illegal everywhere to lower your grade because of excused absences. Maybe he didn't get to grade the projects in time to submit grades because you handed them in on the last day of the quarter.

I would have your parents call. Again with the 'puzzled' approach. Has brieb had bad attendance other than the excused absences we sent he doctors's note for?

When parents step in and cause uproars, they'd care a lot more than you would think. I echo the others. If you can't reason with him (or the rest of administration), have your parents interfere. An undeserved D is definitely worth fighting over.

Alex

Hmmm, that may be true, romangigypsyeyes. He did go to france for the entire spring break and probably didn't want to look at projects. I would never confront him while angry, but thank you for the advice! Swimcatsmom and alexx, I don't live with my parents and rarely see them, so that wouldn't work. Of course he was at a department meeting all day today! Well, I have his class tomorrow. Wish me luck! :)
