When A School has two ED dates can you.........................................

MY D applied to a super super reach. She purposely applied Early Decision in order to give herself every advantge possible In the meantime, she has applied to 14 other schools already, but one in particular has the ED1 and ED2 option. She will hear back from the super super reach school by December 15th, which actually will give her enough time to call the number two school and switch from RD to ED2. How bad does it look if she doesn't get into the first ED school to then contact the second choice and ask if she can switch to ED2?
Of course I understand that all the paperwork has to be submitted, but assuming that that can be accomplished in time for the ED2 date, is that ok?

Yeah, it’s done all the time. It’s part of the reason why some schools have two ED dates.

Don’t even remotely kid yourself that the person answering the phone and making the switch is going to remember ten minutes after the fact who it was. Go for it.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity, why did you D submit 14 RDs already, other than for rolling admission? Why didn’t she wait until she heard back from the ED school? I would have waited on the RD schools. If she didn’t get into her ED then submit 13 RDs and 1 ED2. My kid had all her RD applications ready to go in case she didn’t get into her ED school. Lucky for her, she did and saved a lot of application fees. I split it with her.

Something like 100% of all ED2 applicants will be in the same situation. The college will be very happy to be the clear second choice of a group of ambitious, accomplished students – which as irlandaise said is pretty much the point of having ED2 in the first place.
