When and how should you send PSAT/SAT and ACT scores to colleges?

Juniors are will be taking those PSAT tests in a couple weeks, and many of them are also taking the SAT and/or the ACT.

What should they do about sending scores from each of those tests to schools they are interested in?

Do they have to designate schools when they take the test or can they send them later, once they know their scores? Is there some benefit to designating schools at the time of testing?

Is this the same for the PSAT and the SAT (let´s assume the student is a possible NMF candidate...otherwise the PSAT score really won´t matter, will it?).

Students get to send to a number of schools for free as part of the test (I believe three). Some students don’t bother to do that if they’re not sure how they will do on the test, waiting to send if the scores are “good” so they don’t have a low score in their application file. You can send to any number of colleges afterward if you pay. As far as PSAT, you can send or not right now. It doesn’t matter. An NMF will get to designate a first choice school in March of Senior Year (it can be changed right up till the last moment).
