It's not clear to me whether Midd is doing the same thing this year. Are you earlies getting fully paid trips in early April, or just being invited to the regular "Preview Days" on 3/13 or 3/22? The common thread for the early admits would be that you all must be very smart, desireable candidates that Midd wants to capture from other colleges!

Here's the lead from a student newspaper article on last year's recruiting effort:

"Last spring, Middlebury admissions conducted an experiment - fly in 100 stand-out admitted students who may choose another school for one final presentation on why they should choose Middlebury. The College planned to attract "truly fabulous" students following a major increase in application numbers, from roughly 6,200 the year before last to nearly 7,200 last year, and an overall rise in the number of top applicants."

There was an earlier article - right after or during the visits - which I can't find right now. It reflected a sense that at least some current students felt it was wasteful to fund trips for the "Top 100." I have no idea how widespread the criticism was, but you can read the student comments to the above article, and the earlier one if you can find it.

I like to read the campus newspapers to get a feel for how students interact with their college administrations. My overall impression of Middlebury is that its students (at least those who write about their experiences) are very partisan, love the college, but are not afraid to question what the administration is doing with their tuition dollars.

Can we come to a consensus? Was everyone who was admitted RD offered an all-expensed paid trip to the Campus, or were there others who just received an Acceptance letter without the trip?

I think it's 100 students of the accepted lot, whom Midd feel they want under all circumstances, are offered this visit so they can basically sell the school to these students. The rest will receive regular acceptance letters. This is what I've gathered. Is this it?

My question is, will the rest of us, clearly the not-as-special people, hear on the 30th, online?

The decision for Middlebury is available online on Saturday, March 29th. Log in to your application status account and click on the link along the top for your decision.

The website says the decisions are available on March 28 but not online til 29... does that mean you can call and find out on the 28th or do they just mail them then?

where do we get the application status password and name? cause i never got a letter from them beside one that said "i know this is a long wait and an anxious time..." and then it went into details bout how hard it is to get into middlebury...so how am i supposed to check saturday morning?

And one in Financial Office Emailed me yesterday and told me that "Financial Aid decision has not been made yet. The Assistant Directors have just started reviewing Language School Applications again", "Please check next week"....
but another said "If you have been selected to be admitted to Middlebury and your application is complete there will also be information about your aid decision...on Saturday morning on the web"...
