i need to know

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1616853-when-is-mit-s-notification-date.html

Mid-March. They’ll announce the exact date in early March.

Keep in mind that the admissions office has not yet released a date when decisions will be available because they actually do not know yet when they will be able to announce decisions. As soon as they know, you’ll know.

I probably won’t @molliebatmit. This forum turned into Detroit. I don’t think I’ll visit here till after the results come.

“Turned into Detroit”? And you’d know from the blogs, not necessarily from here.

I think they also send an email to all applicants…

Isn’t it usually on Pi Day Tau time? My bet would be 14th March.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s pi day tau time. I thought it used to be pi day 1:59 pm…

IT IS A MYSTERY

Mystery hunt puzzle 2015 ideas.

I hunt with Codex, and I really, really tried (and failed) to get a decent MIT Admissions puzzle into the 2013 hunt. I did settle for an interview puzzle though.

Ya know, I’ve always wondered… why don’t colleges just not announce their decision dates and release them whenever they’re ready?

Is it because they want to release around the same time as other colleges/rivals?

Is it to build suspense for students?

Is it to alleviate the stress of waiting for RD students (so they know when they’re going to know)?

Or IS IT A MYSTERY, TOO?

most likely on pi day, but what bothers me is I already know I’ve been rejected. I made a really silly error on my application when I forgot to save it.

This is actually exactly what MIT does – they don’t know in advance what day they’ll be ready to send the decisions, so when they are able to identify the day they’ll be done, they announce the day. They aren’t done with the process when the date is announced, and they couldn’t release the decisions earlier than they do.

Back when I was applying to college (uphill in the snow both ways, etc.), decisions were only available by snail mail, and there were no blogs or college discussion forums where the mailing was announced. So every so often in the spring, you just got an envelope in the mailbox. Believe me, this sort of variable reward schedule is much more stressful to live through than knowing the date in advance.

Shutterstock, you could email in a correction.

I meant something more like colleges don’t announce their dates at all and just release their decisions. So no one knows when they’re up until the colleges announce that the decisions are up at that very moment. So for MIT, Chris suddenly posts on mitadmissions on April 1st (I made it up) that the admissions decisions are up without any prior warning. Would it cause more harm than benefit?

Yes, in my opinion, because until April 1st you would be obsessively checking the blogs and your emails. Or at least I would. That’s what happened with my MEng decision. It was supposed to come by email, so I had my email open in the corner of my screen and I spent almost all of my waking time on my computer stressed out. I even added an extension so my computer would beep whenever I got an email in case I left. I thought it would come one week and it didn’t. And then I thought it would come the next week and it didn’t. I would have loved to know the date.

Pi day tau time so we can have an excuse to eat three pies plz.

You don’t need an excuse to eat three pies. :p
