I was under the impression that classes aren’t scheduled until NSO, but on my eLion I have the ability to add courses.
It’s not supposed to be enabled until NSO - If it works for you, my suggestion is go ahead, worst case, you get scolded a little when you get to NSO.
Do you have a PSU ID number? Usually you get this at NSO.
Isn’t everyone given their ID # when they get their acceptance? I think you just don’t get your ID card until NSO. My D has both because she was a dual enroll student and her elion says that she can register now for fall, but it states that NSO attendance is mandatory and scheduling now will not change that. My D will wait until NSO to register for fall so that she knows what she is doing. She figures there are advisors for a reason! I was surprised to see the scheduling option open as well.
eLion will not allow you to schedule if you aren’t allowed to -you’ll get an error message when you try to enter the class. If it lets you, I would definitely go ahead and take a stab at it – you can always drop things, you can add whatever’s left, but there’s no bad side to trying it, imho.
Thanks everyone. I scheduled my classes, but I guess I’ll wait until NSO to see if changes have to be made.
Has anyone who was able to schedule classes prior to attending NSO completed NSO yet? I was just wondering if there were any issues once you met with an advisor and you already had classes loaded. Our D was able to go in and schedule most classes, but doesn’t go to NSO until 6/9.
My son completed NSO today. He had pre-selected all of his courses and there were no issues. He is in (pre)Smeal, so I can only say what his experience was there. Guess it could be different elsewhere.
Thanks to everybody for pointing out that one might be able to register for courses now! We tried it and voila! eLion was letting his account register for Fall (maybe because he’s already starting in the summer). So we did reserve some courses that seemed to be filling up. The kid’s NSO is still next week, but it’s good to know that he won’t be shut out of getting into essential courses like Math 140.
I do have a question for anybody who might know though. He was able to register for IST 110H (the “honors” version of IST 110) even if he isn’t in the Schreyers program. (The non-honors sections were either already filled up or in conflict with his other classes.) Does anybody know if this is ok and they’ll let him go through with this (he doesn’t mind the extra work and challenge). Or will they force him to drop the course and switch to another section, once the advisor notices or once classes start?
Update: Just called the College of IST. Looks like you don’t have to be in Schreyers to take IST 110H, so cool! Not sure if that’s the case for all honors courses (I’d guess not), but that’s the case for IST 110H at least.
