Has anyone heard anything from the orientation folks about NSO. D has taken her Aleks and submitted the educational survey but we haven't received the official notification of NSO dates from the orientation folks.

I know NSO for Schreyer is May 22-23 but has anyone received the card from orientation folks yet?

Yes a lot of folks have

I’ve heard they’ll mail it a week or so after ALEKS is submitted.

I seem to recall that my child received information on NSO closer to the scheduled date than I expected her to. It was the week after PSU graduation (this weekend). Both the SHC and the academic colleges are quite swamped with preparing for graduation and the summer session.
He are some pointers to make things go more smoothly.
You can come prepared for class selection by visiting the website of your intended major to find a list of recommended freshman classes and http://schedule.psu.edu to identify the sections and times that will work for you. Write down the course and section numbers and bring them with you. this will allow you to directly enter them on the elion page, and reduce the times you have to go back and forth between elion and the schedule of courses page. This will greatly speed up the registration process.
Additionally you will have to schedule ENGL137H. if you don’t find the sections that work for you, remember that CAS137H is the same course. Many courses are cross listed at PSU. In many cases they even meet together. So if a class is filled see if it’s cross listed and then check if there are open seats in the XLIST course. In some cases you might have to fill out a form to formally substitute (does not apply to ENGL137/CAS137), but approval of the subs is automatic. If a class is cross listed it will appear in the notes column for the course on the schedule of courses page.
Have an idea if you will use your AP credits or not. This gives students the most angst during NSO.
You may not meet with your assigned honors advisor on that day. My childs honors advisor was assigned during class scheduling. DO NOT freak out about this (message more for parents than students! LOL). Honors advisor(s) for that major will be present when you schedule your classes and will answer questions and provide guidance.
Keep in mind that you can change your schedule after NSO. Do not hesitate to email your assigned advisor to ask more questions if there are any unresolved issues from NSO. Likewise if you received AP scores later in the summer and are considering making a change, contact your advisor to discuss this. This is especially true if you are planning to AP out of classes required for your major. In my own department there are some classes that we advise you can AP out of, while others we recommend against doing so. Downside to late changes is that incoming non honors students will start registering. It all works out though. No worries.
Not sure if this applies to every college, but my child’s college orientation was partly a scared straight routine. It was overblown, but their attentions were good. SHC students come in as high achievers and tend to show up wanting to take too many honors classes and credits. Listen to the warning not to overextend yourself, but don’t let it scare you.
