Next year, I will be a sophomore. I was wondering if I should begin some light practice w/ the SAT by just getting one of those practice SAT books and doing a few tests. However, I've heard that it's beneficial to take the PSAT (which I will be doing next year) before any studying, and then focus the review based on PSAT scores. So, would I be going overboard by starting now, or it just the right time?

i didnt take any classes before my sophomore PSAT because it doesnt mean much outside of practice. i got like a 185 on it and then the next year i still had not done too much(maybe one practice SAT) and i was just starting a Testmasters class and took the PSAT and got a 208. Right after the Testmasters prep class finished, i took the november SAT and got a 1510. During the classes, i took many practice tests to prepare for the SAT and not the PSAT.

I would recommend that you take the PSAT this year without studying to see where you are at and then work from there.

I agree with sither

Yeah, take the psat and see where you need work. Start working on it next year (I mean, as a Junior)

"I would recommend that you take the PSAT this year without studying to see where you are at and then work from there."

Are you saying that prepping for the PSAT in sophomore year is not expedient? Or are you stating that the PSAT in sophomore year is just unimportant?

thanks...only Junior PSAT scores count, right?

If you take the PSAT as a sophomore, it doesn't count for anything but practice. It carries more meaning during your junior year.

Well, the PSAT doesn't really count for anything, but if you score high enough, you can qualify as a National Merit Scholar and get free cash, plus you can put it on your resume

start studying at least a month in advance. ps how do you make that quote thing appear in your message?

Oops, I forgot to mention that you can only qualify as a national scholar if you score high enough on your junior year
