When should I start studying for the PSAT?

If you’re a rising junior it’s never too early to start.

ok thanks. i’m a rising sophomore, but i’m going to start studying ASAP.

starting early is best. I regret not studying that much when I was a rising sophomore since I’m a slow learner, which I finally learned now as a rising junior. Even if your more advanced and quickly understand elements of the SAT, I still recommend starting now because you can “stress-freely” study and you end up learning about your own weaknesses and strengths along the way. good luck :)

What about taking the november SAT after the PSAT? Would that help? Or would it hurt?

well if you study for the sat’s in order to take them in November, you’re basically studying for the psat’s as well so you can kind of study for both at the same time. i cant see it hurting in anyway

I’m taking the SAT in October, a couple weeks before I take PSAT, practicing with real PSATs and the BB all summer.
Hoping to luck out and be done with it all this fall.
If not, I have plenty of time to study til spring and try again.

My daughter did took the SAT in October the week before the PSAT. The things she found difficult on the SAT, she had a chance to study more for the PSAT. She had a chance to get the feeling of the testing situation, and knew that the PSAT would be shorter. She got a 2100 on the SAT and the following week achieved a 228 on the PSAT. I think it was a good way for her to do it.

id say start building your vocab base now. also study basic math and find a grammar guide. take the psat in soph year to get a feel for it so you have practice before junior year when it counts for national merit. then id suggest taking the real sat once june of soph, then january of junior yr, and june of junior year. good luck!!!
