I saw some people posting about them coming out on the 10th but typically they come out on the 15th? I was wondering if anyone knew the correct date thanks!
The date varies from year to year. Some year’s Yale and Harvard have released SCEA acceptance notices on the same date; other years they have not. You’ll just have to keep checking the HY websites for this year’s release date, which I would think would be posted within the next week.
Harvard has definitely been saying it will be on the 10th at 5 pm.
^^ Please point me to one of Harvard’s websites that says December 10th, as I wasn’t aware that was official.
I heard it firsthand from an admissions officer who would not be telling me something that he wasn’t certain of. It was today.
But, until it’s in print, nothing is carved in stone. That being said right now they plan to release on the 10th at 5pm.
@falcon1 did they email you?
^^ Well, until the date has been posted on Harvard’s website, it’s hearsay.
FWIW: Here’s why I’m skeptical of December 10th: Half of Harvard’s full Admissions Committee are faculty members who have teaching commitments through the last day of Fall term classes, which this year is Thursday, December 3rd. Before students are notified of acceptances, the financial aid office needs to calculate financial aid packages for every accepted student that applied for financial aid. If December 10th is indeed the notification date that would mean Harvard’s full Admissions Committee would need to complete their meetings in only 4 days (Friday 12/4, Saturday 12/5, Sunday 12/6 and Monday 12/7) to give the financial aid committee time to calculate aid on Tuesday 12/8 and Wednesday 12/9. Given the complexity of what’s involved, that just seems like a very compressed time-frame.
@gibby when will the date be posted?
^^ My gut feeing is that Harvard (and Yale) will post a date on their website when the Full Admissions Committee has gone through at least half of the students being brought before the full committee. Sometimes an applicant is a slam-dunk and takes less than 10 minutes to review, other applicants may take a half hour, or even an hour. Until the full committee is half-way through they don’t even know the exact timetable.
December 15 is posted in the Yale applicant portal as the SCEA notification date
@gibby they have had the applications for quite sometime wouldn’t they be half way by now?
While the regional Admissions Directors have been reading files for all of November, given Harvard’s teaching faculty commitments, I don’t think the Full Committee has met yet. This from a recent post of mine.
FWIW: I think the process is the same with Yale Admissions!
I defer to gibby
^^ As one kid just commented on the Harvard thread
I called the admissions office and they said the decision date is December 10th (although they did say they were aiming for December 10th so I do agree it could change!)
All the Ivies report on the same day and time. I would conjecture that the date of Dec 10 5pm was selected and agreed upon by all the ivies several months ago. How likely is it that Harvard would admit to the other ivies that they can’t make the date?
^^ By ivy league rules all 8 schools must report RD decisions on the same day. That’s NOT true for SCEA and ED decisions. Every school is allowed to report SCEA decisions on their own time-table.
@gibby
This may seem stupid on my account but does this same time table follow for recruited athletes with LL? Do they get the same “official” announcement?
I was under the impression that Yale is releasing decisions on the 15th after 5:00 PM. I would be thrilled if it moved up to next Thursday. Put me out of my misery!
I’m pretty sure @gibby is right. I would guess that even if Harvard comes out on the 10th, Yale is on the 15th.
Hasn’t Yale almost always released SCEA decisions on December 11th?
