What's is Wisconsinites' (or whatever the phrase is) perception of people from IL, or more specifically, Chicago? (I'm from near Chicago.) Please be honest; I'm not easily offended.

And I'm going to the scholarship competition as well.

You have no fears. Illinois (and particulalry greater Chicago) is the second biggest feeder to MU after the state of Wisconsin. There will be plenty of fellow Illini in your classes and getting rides to Chicago for a weekend is never usually a problem.

The only thing I experienced when I attended there (class of '74) was a somewhat negative connotation for the townies, many of whom were commuters. They have for years been referred to as Cretins (after those who commuted to Athens from Crete) but please note that there wasn't really any kind of discrimination exhibited toward them, it was more just a somewhat pejorative description that had apparently been around for years. Not sure if it still is used today but it was still an active part of the campus lexicon as few as ten years ago.

Oh, by the way, be sure you know what a "bubbler" is.

I'm in! No notification of receiving the Ignatius schoalrship though--did anyone get anything about that? (Based on my states, and what the admission officers told me, I was pretty sure I'd receive it.)

I sure hope it comes out in March; I was definitely counting on getting some money.

In case any of you were interested, I talked with an admissions officers at an open house earlier this yer, and he said that generally the top third of all applicants get some kind of scholarship.

initially, i heard about marquette from a priority application they sent me. of course many students recieve tons of these applications, mostly from not so great schools...
but, my father really wanted me to apply to schools in virginia and i didnt really want to.. so i looked into the whole free application thing. after some reasearch i realized that marquette was actually a decent school!! a great basketball team to watch (gotta have the sports), a Jesuit school (i'm catholic so the school gets approval from my mother), solid academics, a nice size (not too big, not too small), and a nice urban location (although telling others of my possibility of going to school in wisconsin still gets blank or puzzled stares)... lots of things like that.
its not my first choice, i admit, but i wouldnt be unhappy going there
