I got a letter saying that they would send out decisions in mid-january. I was wondering if anybody knew when people were notified last year. I applied using a priority application, in case that matters.

My daughter got her letter / packet yesterday. No financial aid or merit information included with it, but at least its step one...

She submitted application back in October. Good luck!!

i got accepted.....but no merit money :(

We spoke to Marquette today. All letters about Merit aid will be mailed out sometime in February!

That's great to hear. S was accepted, but we thought there was no merit money since it wasn't mentioned in the packet. Do you know if the merit money they mentioned is the result of scholarship applications or simply merit awards based on the basic application?

Everyone that is accepted is eligible for merit awards. There are some departmental awards that require an interview or essay. You will get notification in Mid-February.

I got my acceptance today. They sent it to my boarding school (which must have been the address I gave them), so I had the thick envelope waiting for me when I got back.
I'm excited. Marquette is my favorite university that I've been accepted to so far, and it's one that I could really see myself loving (as opposed to being okay backups, like my other two acceptances).

I got my acceptance letter today! I'm going out to do the scholarship exam on the 31st!

^^^
Congratulations! We're too far away to make the trip, unfortunately, but best of luck on the scholarship exam.

Accepted :D

There is a merit based scholarship (ignatius scholarship and also a scholarship competition). I asked the dean of admissions about it, and he said they sent it out 1-2 weeks after they sent out the first letter.

All the above is correct. Merit aid announcements come out two-three weeks after the admissions letter. At least, that goes for the automatic merit aid that comes just from applying. Not sure when the scholarships that you apply for are announced.

My daughter is a freshman at Marquette. I would be happy to answer any questions.

dbwes - did your D compete for any of these scholarships? My H is an alum!

cpeltz -- Is H still a Golden Eagles fan? H and I went to DePaul and it's very hard for my H to see Marquette do so much better than DePaul. The games are so much fun, by the way.
Yes, she went up for the scholarship competition for the Health Sciences school and she sent in an application to the Chicago Alumni Club. She did not, however, get those scholarships, but she did get an Ignatius award.

So glad to finally see some action on the Marquette thread!

My son is a junior at the Jesuit High School in New Orleans, and Marquette is his top choice. Please let us know any tips about admissions, scholarships, dorms, meal plans, any info at all!

What scholarships are you eligible for just by applying, and what scholarships require extra apps, interviews, tests, essays?

Okay, a tip that I received from a Marquette Ad-Com member was that when applying, select a major in two different schools. For example, I chose international studies (which is in the Art & Science college) and something like Journalism (which is in the communications college). Now, they need to be in majors that you're interested in, and the two majors that I selected are the two that I'm deciding between, but it's helpful none-the-less. What it does is, when you're applying, it gives you an extra shot at getting in. Like, my application went to the college of Arts and Sciences first, and if they had rejected me, it would have then gone on to the communication college.

As far as scholarships:
When you apply, you're automatically qualified for the Ignatius Scholarship (which varies in amount). For other scholarship information, look at this link:

Thanks so much for that tip. Big fear is that will not get into Biomed Engin, since it's such a hot field right now, so will look for another major to apply to as well. At visit, told that a lot of kids drop out of engineering after the first year, thanks to calc and physics, so maybe a space will open up. Good luck and thanks for the tip!

Engineering is hot at Marquette right now, with the new Engineering building going up soon. The Marquette College of Engineering sends out a monthly e-newsletter that you might want to subscribe to, if you don't already.
