When are decisions made?

Is Marquette rolling admissions? I had all of my materials in a few weeks ago.
I couldn't find any information on their website or collegeboard.

I believe admission letters are sent beginning 2/01.

They are usually start sending them 2nd week of January. Good luck!

Acceptance letters come first and then merit aid letters.

Marquette does not have rolling adm. They send all decisions during the same week usally the second week of January.

My son just received an invitation to apply for a scholarship. I hope this is an indication.

They send that to all students. But if your son is well within the adm. stats he will most likely be accepted.

But i dont understand why they would send invitations for students to compete for scholarships if some of them won’t even be admitted. I mean the dates for the tests are after they send out admissions letters, so isn’t it maybe a sign for those who are qualified enough?

I agree, why would anyone spend all that money on a plane ticket and hotel to compete for a $5000/year scholarship when they don’t even know if they’ll be accepted to the school. That doesn’t seem to make any sense.

They send the scholarship competition letter to all applicants. My son is a sophomore and I am an alumnus. If you live far it is not worth making the trip unless you are combining it with a school visit.

Following up please also note that test dates are in February and you will know by mid January if you were admitted.

yes, which adds to the question 'Why send to this letter to a kid who’s rejection letter is sitting in a pile ready to be sent out?" I mean if I was one of those people who got their hopes up high thinking they’re in only to be shut down, I’d be livid. It’s just taunting and not really appropriate.

Rejection or acceptence letters are not in a pile. They do not make decisions until January. All schools (at least all that my three college kids applied to) send scholarship competition and forms before decisions are made. My S attending Marquette started getting dorm & apartment info from UW-Madison way before getting accepted they sent the info to all applicants.

I understand this is how it is done - but I agree - I don’t see the logic behind it

We unfortunately were wooed by those scholarship invitations. I made nonrefundable plane reservations for son to attend the test days before his admission notification. Son was admitted, but received a much lower scholarship offer than we were expecting. Rather than spending good money after bad, ie, missed school days, hotel, meals and rental car, we decided it was better to eat the $600 plane fare and move on to schools that we could afford to send my son to.

Son still loves Marquette and hopes to attend grad school there. He is happy at his present school and doing very well there. He saves his scholarship money over and above what we could afford to pay so he can do study abroad and summer programs and no doubt pay his full tuition for grad school at Marquette, as he learned the hard way that just because you love a school doesn’t mean you can afford to go there.

@sophistry

I actually just got a phonecall earlier tonight saying that they’d be sending out decisions in two weeks :)

Well thanks everyone! It’s too bad about the scholarship notification. I got one in the mail a few weeks ago but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if I get in.

So the call estimated that they would send out letters approx 1/17. I wouldn’t think they would state 1/17 as the date they will be mailed - otherwise their phone rings off the hook on 1/18 while the notices are in the mail.

I am guessing they go out in the mail this week and most everyone receives them by Saturday’s mail.

But it’s just a guess.

Does anyone know if you will be able to see the acceptance online prior to receiving the mailing.

No, only by letter. My S & D were phoned prior to letter arrival but I don’t know if it was because they were legacy.
